So um, Bourbon thread? Yeah, Bourbon Thread.

Ok, my Old Fashioned recipe:

Ingredients:
- 2 oz bourbon
- 1 bar spoon of simple syrup
- 3-5 dashes of Angostura bitters
- 1 dash of Angrostura Orange bitters (optional)
- 1-2 Luxardo Cherries
- Orange peel
- 1 fancy fucking spherical ice cube

1. Place three to five dashes of bitters (to taste) and one dash of orange bitters in an Old Fashioned glass.

2. Combine one bar spoon’s amount of simple syrup and your bourbon with the bitters.

3. Place your fancy fucking ice cube in the glass and using a bar spoon stir your mixture for 30 seconds. Don’t skimp on the timing here - be a man and stir for at least 30 seconds.

4. Place two Luxardo cherries on a cocktails stick and place it in the glass.

5. Take your orange peel and squeeze it around the lip of the glass to express the oils. Place said orange peel in your drink.

6. Drink one.

7. Make another.

Note about bourbons: don’t go too expensive or you are just wasting your money. That said, don’t use shit bourbon either. My favorites include Elijah Craig, Basil Hayden’s (so smooth), Wild Turkey 101, and Woodford.

My favorite OFs typically use Elijah Craig but anything over $40-50 a bottle is just a waste like you said.

Depends on what I’m in the mood for, but EC and Four Roses are my general go to’s for an old fashioned, with Bulleit Rye my go to if I wan’t something a little spicier.

That’s very close to my norm.

I do 3 & 3 on the bitters and no cherries unless I’m making one for friends as well.

Doesn’t get much better than a sunny January day, a pour of Eagle rare, a cigar, and a scenic view of 84th and Pine Lake from the Fairfield Inn.

I knew something was different when I looked off to the west driving south on 84th today…caught a glimpse of Fairfield and the sun just hit different, casting a special boozy Bourbon glow.

Knob creek or Woodford for me. Basically anything drinkable but nothing special.

You guys are my kind of people. An old fashioned with Woodford or Elijah Craig just hits the spot. Bonus points if it's smoked or you pair with a good cigar.

Any recommendations on how many times you need to repeat steps 6 and 7?

Depends on how hard your day was!

I will say this: I’m usually a two Old Fashioned person sitting kind of guy but my friend said it be with respect to margaritas:

“The optimal number of margaritas is 1.5”

I agree with your buddy, although with margaritas I can usually only handle 1… a 64oz margarita is plenty. Not sure I could do another 32oz seems a bit much.

This is a reminder I’m doing my Blantons run, so if you see a bottle in Omaha, let me know. Or buy it and I’ll reimburse you.

Anyone tried “Premier Drams”? Bill Thomas, the owner of Jack Rose, started the label. His family business was distribution which is how he got into collecting. Jack Rose has or had one of Americas largest public whiskey collection. A must visit for a whiskey fan when in the DMV. For this label he’s using those relationships to source whiskey from some pretty high end distilleries.

From what I understand most of their bottles are Willett juice. $215 a bottle for 7 year Willett bourbon is a pretty good deal. I just picked up two from a store in DC but haven’t tried, yet. These two are Willett juice aged at castle and key.IMG_0710.jpeg

Never tried or heard of it until now, sounds tasty.

You’ll have to let me know what you think of the two bottles. Interested to hear what the character notes are with the two different proofs.

Anyone in Nebraska ever order direct from a distillery and/or store from outside the state? I have personally never tried, always heard of liquor bottles getting confiscated (this is more of a decade ago type rumor).

That being said Ive seen Brewzle saying he is able to ship to most states? So maybe missed a law reversal? Also anyone ever try a Brewzle single barrel/bottle pick.
