If you make a move and you miss on a proven P5 coach it’s a failure plain and simple. Back the truck up to Mike Gundy and be done with it.
I think a guy like Dave Doeren could even do well. You can’t say any hire is a failure or success right off the bat. If Frost has a losing season we know the next coach can’t be any worse. Five straight losing seasons is as bad as it gets.

I’d take Gundy. I didn’t realize how well he’s done at OSU until I googled him the other day.

With the money that we’ll have with the new TV deal, if you’re hiring a non-P5 head coach or a guy who was a coordinator you did it all wrong.

I'd be ecstatic if we got Gundy

His sister lives in Lincoln as her husband is a big wig with Nebraska Farm Bureau. It’s been said here, but thought it was common knowledge that he wanted the job here in 14 as did Dan Mullen. With the way the college landscape is changing, would he be interested again? I think it would be worth a shot and I think we should pay him what he wants if we find ourselves in the head coaching market.

You can’t say it for sure though. You never know with coaches. It’s a crap shoot. Turd might hire an assistant who is the next big hit. Under your pretenses that would be a failure. It’s also not a guarantee Gundy takes us to the promised land either even though I think he is a good coach. What worked at OSU might not work at Nebraska and the BIG.

Fundamentally, the decision to retain or fire a head coach is about whether you think he's better than the "average" candidate you'd expect to land on an open market. Obviously you go hunting guys who you are 99% will be able to do the job, but if you end up with a guy who you're 40% sure can do the job you're probably in a better spot than you are with giving Scrote another shot.

I agree. You really can’t hire anyone worse than Frost at this point which makes it even more laughable he didn’t get fired after a 3 win season. Even our whipping boy Riley could make a bowl game.

Frost has done nothing but make all the right decisions regarding in game coaching and coaching hires. Its the players fault they don’t execute his genius gameplans. SMH. If only the players listened.

I don’t want a maybe with the resources we will shortly have.

If it’s not a proven p5 head coach it’s failure, full stop.

But again… get comfortable with Monken getting a long look. The dude who couldn’t even get the Kansas job.

What if your choice is a no (Frost) or a maybe (Monken)?

If he could land top 10 classes and put a legit experienced coaching staff around him he could be fine. You’re not winning any sort of championships with the level of recruiting we have had most years after Osborne. Callahan is the only coach who gave us some hope recruiting wise, but he couldn’t put the development part together especially on defense.
Callahan and Frost staffs have both been recruiting at a high level. Callahan had a much higher ceiling, but we were also a handful of years removed from playing for a Natty. Also, Billy C was just a handful of years from his super bowl run.

Frost's staff has recruited very well considering the dog shit product.

Callahan hired a DC that was meant for the B1G. If he keeps Bo he likely wins a couple conference championships.

My point is Gundy isn’t a sure thing either. Even if we get Gundy I’ll be cautiously optimistic because the BIG is a different animal than the Big 12. I’m of the Danny Kanell school. He gives every hire a c+ because there is no sure thing outside Urb and Saban.

I agree with you there. We have to shoot for someone with more upside. I would be very concerned with how Monken would recruit.
I think Monken would change his ways on offense. Keep the core values he has, but change up the way he does it... I think Mickey has a deal with Turd to be here for a long time.
