Yard Care

Yeah, been thinking about what my plan will be next year, but I have been pretty happy with the products I got this year from Yard Mastery (Allyn Hayne aka Lawn Care Nut on youtube his company).

Probably do something like this...
Are you using a backpack sprayer or hose end?

Me too. I however have very little knowledge about what I'm doing fertilizer wise so any average salesman could sell me almost whatever they wanted to, until the price gets too high lol. This one I'll need to do research on while the snow is on the ground.
These are two channels a lot of what my plan is based on...

Big thing I do with my program is I have times of high and low nitrogen. Times of high nitrogen I am putting down 1.2lbs/ 1k of nitrogen. This is when I put that flagship down. I use that to jumpstart growth in the lawn. Do that in the spring and before an overseed to help push growth.

This is a product I am going to try next year.... Supposedly I can cut my watering in half and have same results... Probably use it in later June is my best guess.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lowering the water output, there's a good idea! Going to add that to my research list. Wife pays that bill, she'd like that.

I am using a hose end... It is on my wish list for next year to get a backpack, but even with the liquid ferts they say it is easier to do the hose end because they want you to dilute it down.

This is what I use.... Cheap and easy to work. I will usually work an area and set it at a low mix rate so I can make multiple passes.

Get the backpack. It’s well worth it and it sprays everything just fine. I asked because if you did have a backpack, I would recommend spraying your prodiamine over granular. Much better coverage; especially along concrete where people have the most problems.

Is a back pack commercial quality?

Some commercial companies use them, but you can get a good battery powered one for between $200 and $300. Don’t waste your time with the hand pump version. I use mine to spray my pre emergent, liquid iron, grub preventative, bug killer, fungicides, weed killer, etc. The only thing I won’t put through it is anything that kills grass.

Must be what my neighbor uses. He has a hand pump but walks all over his front yard just lightly spraying stuff. He has a magnificent yard. Am competing against him admittedly.

First time in the 4 years of owning this home that I have timed planting grass seed with a good rain. Having no underground sprinklers is a bitch but this feels good. Time to sit back and enjoy some beers this weekend

Scheduled my first sprinkler winterirization yesterday, 10/12. Ironically enough that's the same weekend I was planning to go buy a zero turn over in Gretna
I turn off the water and drain the pipes myself which takes about 3 minutes. Never done the air compressor thing, seems like a scam. I've never had a problem.

I do the same thing. No issues for multiple years until this last year - had something messed up on the inside of my backflow preventer, but that's at about the highest elevation of the whole system, so shouldn't have been a drainage issue.

I'm writing that up to a fluke, plus the replacement cost was less than the total would have been blowing things out every year.

As long as you do this, drain the line into a bucket in your basement where you open the valve back up, and then run a cycle on your sprinkler heads for 10-15 minutes a zone so it blows any excess water out, you should be solid.

I’ve heard of people doing this, gonna try and pay attention when they do mine. First go around is free so it’s all good for this year

Cut the grass this afternoon on my half day, sidewalks and driveway trimmed up. Fall fertilizer down the other day. Wanted to get it done before God drunk pisses down rain tomorrow. Yard looks fantastic. Go Big Red

Yo lawn bros. Bought a new house 9 acres. Land is attached to the in-laws and just over 35ish acres combined.
Plus the house sits in 2 acres not counted in the 9.
Anyone used to taking care of a couple acres. Trying to start from scratch here. Also best zero trun?
