I think the point remains that Nebraska has become a place where you either suck and get fired, or you're good and want to leave.

No offense but that is not really revelatory. Nebraska is a state w 1.9m people. UNL enrollment is 26k which is small compared to most of the big boys. Curriculum-wise, our U is not really known for anything particular.

Our normal station in life is we're a place where you either get fired from or you bounce to a better job. That's 99% of places.

Yeah honestly....Nebraska has had SO many people fail or suck at these roles (that Feit listed) that it's refreshing actually to have someone that was so good at his job that he got poached by a bigger/better school.

I've said this before but I'll repeat it: Nebraska should embrace the Oregon model. Oregon has made peace w who they are: smaller public school in a small/rural state, with an isolated geographic location (sound familiar?). Oregon has accepted that their top FB HCs, ADs, U administrators will use Oregon as a stepping stone to a bigger/better job. And they're OK with it! They don't like it, but they've learned to accept it.

Oregon FB Head Coaches since 2009:

• Chip Kelly, 4 seasons - left for better job
• Mark Helfrich, 4 seasons - fired
• Willie Taggart, 1 season - left for better job
• Mario Cristobal, 4 seasons - left for better job
• Dan Lanning, 2 seasons - current HC (will probably leave for SEC job)

That's essentially 4 out of their last 5 HCs that have done so well there they've used the Oregon HC gig as a springboard to a better job. And what's the one constant through this 15 yr period? Oregon generally wins 9-10 games every yr and wins or is a contender for their conference title.

Nebraska fans might scoff at being a "stepping stone job" but we sure as hell would take Oregon's last 15 yrs (vs ours). This model is now the way of the world if you're not OSU/BAMA/UGA etc. We actually need more Ted Carters - that means they came here, did a job for us, and got rewarded with a bigger job. That's a recipe for success, not something to avoid.

Honestly if Rhule didn't cite Carter as one of the main reasons he came here I wouldn't give a shit.

I mean, we had Bill Belichik calling Ted Carter telling him to look at Rhule and not worry about his NFL record. It was odd for a school like UNL to have these incredible ties to the northeast (and he used them).

Carter was a big asset to the athletic dept. You need the replacement to have a similar type rolodex to his (though I doubt the new president is gonna have Bill Belichik's number on speed dial like Ted does).
