Got it. Thanks for laying it out for me. I agree that he seems to be very eager to report whatever JoJo is telling him on the podcast (and potentially behind the scenes) as the straight dope. I don't know if that means GL was his only real insider source or not. He at least represents that he's got a lot of contacts among former players and that sort. Beyond that, if he was keyed in with GL, I'm not sure there's reason to believe he wouldn't establish a similar relationship with the replacement who was just GL's deputy.

But that’s the problem. That source could have an expiration date and if that’s your best one you’re in a really tough spot.

I don’t want to speak as if I’m the only one who knows business, etc and I’m certainly open to being corrected.

But you have to establish connections that will always be there or more likely than not be there through staff changes, etc. and then you have your secondary sources that are on staff, etc.

How do you do this? Leverage who you are to get into these circles. He’s actually built up a pretty solid personal brand piggy backing off the university. Pick up the phone and make some calls “Hey so-n-so this is Sean Callahan from HuskersOnline. I wanted to reach out and see if we can grab lunch, talk a bit about you and what are working on for the university and how we can help each other? We are on the road a lot and in front of a lot of the residence in this state. So we feel we can really get a ground level view for people’s thoughts on sports programs here and the university as a whole. A lot of people at the university believe that to be valuable information. What do you say we meet and talk about it all?”

You’re in the information business. As Gordon Gekko once said “Information is the most valuable commodity I possess.” You simply CANNOT have that faucet run dry like it has the past 12 months or so.

I would be pretty surprised if Jojo is giving him negative dirt on a teammate, particularly in the case of Omar.

That was kind of my thought as well, but then who is he hearing this from? Nobody else in the state is saying what he’s saying.

I do know that the staff and the AD has let some false rumors fly to see who they can and can’t trust. Maybe someone is smoking out a rat here?

That would be a poor rumor to float to smoke out a rat. Honestly to me that would be worse than it being truth.

Yup. Then likened the situation to Mo Washington. Which is right in line with the tone Dean had. Extremely reckless accusation to throw around about a kid with a well-documented history of mental illness forcing him to miss time.

Things might have improved a little now that biff (GL) is gone, but nobody liked him. Frost is notoriously late for staff meetings - not really surprised given the attention to detail in games - he was MIA back in June one weekend when we were hosting a recruit, nobody knew where he was; he never showed up to meet the kid and the staff had to make up an excuse. Just the tip of the iceberg....I'm not trying to be some insider, I just get intel from time to time from a couple of former players who are close to the program as well as a good friend who works for the team.
