The sentiment around his recruiting has been “he doesn’t like doing it”, which is setting a tone for everything thereafter… and “He takes excessive flyers on athlete projects.”
I think it’s fair to point out that this track record was while at Temple and Baylor where getting elite athletes isn’t super easy. He out-recruited his predecessors at both schools. His precedent of nabbing T&F studs stems from the reality that it was his best path to getting athleticism on the field.
Like many have already said ITT that this is a transition class and I’m not ready to make sweeping judgements around his tactics. I’d err on the side that if he got to choose from a T&F stud and an elite athlete with football skills already he’d choose the latter. He just didn’t have the option to do so in the past.
