Yard Care

Best thing I did when we built our new house was have them add drip lines through the landscaping that are on a separate zone and get a WiFi controller. I bought a RainMachine at the time. That thing uses AI to automatically adjust your watering based on all of the weather data it collects. Saves me a ton in over watering.
So there were two versions of the bid I got, rain saver or just basic. Rain saver was an extra grand. I went with the basic this go around, but I will keep the rain saving deal in my back pocket and maybe call them about it someday once the funds refresh a little, or if I have a nice bonus to blow or something. It's certainly intriguing, but wanted to atleast get the system in the ground for a while first. We'll see, I know future adjustments may be needed.

What I got was just a controller unit (I think it may have been a couple of hundred bucks). There are several different models available online. Just re-wire in the zones from your own controller unit and you're good to go.

Got about half the back yard to go. Hope it gets done today or the wife will have to hang around tomorrow. Needs mowed and watered badly.

That is pretty cool though that it adjusts for rainfall.

I use to have that at my old place. All I can say is that I’m happy this year. My lawn looks like a million bucks. Last winter was brutal

God dammit I think the mother fuckers are back. Can’t tell if it’s their tunnels or the trenches dug from the new sprinkler system . Stepping on them, it feels a lot like their tunnels from last summer

Got a mole in the yard again, been traveling much farther than he did last year through the yard. Literally watched him tunneling over lunch break. Didn't have but only a few minutes to try and do something about it so I just dug a little and dropped some poison right ontop of him. Pulled some dirt away when digging and could see dirt moving right on top of him. God, so maddening. Found him finally, atleast.

Pitchfork or firearm that little sumbitch to the next realm. It's the honorable death a worthy opponent deserves - to die on the battlefield.

It did cross my mind, I only had about 5 minutes though cause I had to let the dogs out back and make my lunch. I was also quite surprised in the moment. Wife texted me about a pitch fork which I do not have, but that might change by this evening. Tried to stab into the ground with the end of a market flag but I realized on the drive back to work that I should have done that when I had some dirt pulled back.

Spade or roundpoint would have worked having that precise of a location.

Encouraging the dog to dig it up and kill it would have been entertaining but may have created future digging problems.

Spade is probably my most realistic near future next option. I was very close to letting my wife's dog have at it, she loves digging. I just didn't have the time to deal with any impulse decision issues.
