In Klassey’s bio on the university website they credit him with a TON of shit getting done around here over the last couple of years. Examples:
- Took the lead in developing Nebraska’s NIL initiative and the programs to help student athletes
- Spearhead the development of Husker Athletic Partners, the in-house multimedia agency after we split from IMG. So the athletic department can retain 100% of the media revenue
- It also claims he was at least partly in charge of fundraising for the new facilities, now we all know that was a lot of bounds and Davison, but it sounds like it was at least more than what Bill was doing
- Also says he implemented and managed the covid 19 protocols for athletes and staff
Now that’s probably a little bit of them trying to sell him as the AD, but if he is responsible for even 50% of what they are claiming he was a lot more active than Bill who by many accounts;
missed tons of big games of various sports, was a shit fundraiser, had a track record of being reckless with managing funds, had the OU game debacle happen on his watch, fumbled PR issues a number of other times, evidently had a serious enough drinking problem several large donors reportedly wanted him removed a couple of years ago.
Now everyone points to the hires he made, and sure that’s fine he made good hires but honestly he was just the middle man between the money and those coaches. He hired exactly who the big stakeholders wanted anyway. So I can’t give him that much credit for the hires when any AD would’ve probably hired the same people, at least in the big 3 sports (FB, BB, and BSB).
now if you’re Ronnie and the board and you see an assistant AD who’s far out performing your current AD who is absent a lot of the time anyway, and who has a record of the things I spoke of above, AND college athletics is moving into a new era with NIL, I feel like while IDK if it’s a “great” hire, I can at least understand why the decision was made when it was.
