So um, Bourbon thread? Yeah, Bourbon Thread.

Picked up a Bardstown Amrut in Vegas for $130. Saw MSRP was $160 and I’ve never had anything from bardstown except for fusion series which I like. The store had blantons for $105, 4Roses Barrell Proof single barrels for $120, and weller full proof for $300 to give an idea on their prices.

Going to Vegas later this month. Ugh, might be a little over my price range.

I saw a Blanton’s last week for $120. Lol

Probably the wrong thread for this, but have any of you had this great of bartender?

Yes. I’ve had some amazing bartenders. My wife calls me the bartender whisperer because I always get free drinks. My secret… I geek out on the science and the experimentation. I love hearing about what they’ve done, and the creative process they took to get there. And surprise, bartenders like telling you all that. And they can’t help but let someone who’s showing interest in their creativity taste those creations.

Anyway, here are the most renowned bartenders I’ve had:

This guy has worked many events for me early on then became more of a figure head:

Learned a lot talking to him. He’s a historian and scientist all in one. If you don’t want to open the link, his programs won bar of the year, and he personally was named “Chief Spirits Advisor” by the u.s. national archives.

I’ve also walked into this guys place in Portland and had a couple rounds from him:

This guys has built a very successful 200 sq ft bar in NYC without using any sweeteners, and only uses citrus for their peels. He hosted an event for me where we drank 1908 Old Overholt recovered out of the Carnegie estate.

And lastly, she was the bartender at our house for baby shower for our first son (I got her info because she use to work for Derek above):

Had heard about Heaven Hill Bottled In Bond a couple of years ago, but it wasn’t available anywhere but Kentucky. Stopped the local Red Dot on the way to get a hair cut and they had a couple of bottles on the shelf. Not bad. It’s another decent neat option that I can find locally. At 100 proof, I thought I suspected it might have a little heat to it, but it’s really pretty smooth. Nice flavor.

Certainly a good pour for the price. Seems like that and the McKenna 10 year BiB suddenly got super hard to find for a bit when nearly every Bourbon YouTuber started talking about them. And the prices went way up for awhile. Glad that seems to have normalized.

I’d found a bottle of Mc Kenna 10 (at $70) and it wasn’t anything like the old mash bill that I remembered. Hot and not as flavorful.

Only paid $40 for HH BIB, so that’s squarely in the bargain category for a bourbon I enjoy neat. At least where I’m at in the Carolina’s. It’s bullshit that I’m a six or seven hour drive from all of the big Kentucky distilleries and I can’t find most of their better offerings in any store here. Got to be some kind of freaking conspiracy to make me lose my shit.

How far are you from Bowman in VA? Had the A. smith cask strength recently vs. an 11 year Willet purple top. Both were great, but I preferred the Bowman. I’d imagine it’s worth the trip. It’s BT juice

I don’t get how North Carolina still has only state-owned liquor stores. Georgia has dumb laws too (like stores can only have two locations), but the NC rules seem like the worst around here

Bruce Campbell Hello GIF

Just picked up a bottle of whistlepig snout to tail after the guy at W2W wine in Lincoln talked me into it. He said it was better than their 6 year bourbon. Anyone else try it? Is it any good or did I just waste $85?

Just short of four hours.

I saw this year’s BTAC four pack at a local store yesterday for only $6,000. Lol

I've had Pappy a couple of times and it's good, but I'm not paying the money you have to pay to buy a bottle.

I'm sure the same goes for the bourbon in that pack.

At a certain point, I'm not sure my taste buds are good enough to pay much over what I pay for Weller 12.
