So I caved and my kids are going to be getting a puppy in May...

I have sworn forever we weren't getting a pet. My kids and wife have officially worn me down and we are getting a dog.
I had to set some parameters:
-I'm not driving around everywhere with a dog, it stays at home
-Hypoallergenic
-Small because it's probably going to be in the house a lot
-I get to name it

Mrs. Bootleg decided she wanted a mini goldendoodle.

So what is a good dog name for a mini goldendoodle? Let's get husker related.
Vet here.

Just to warn you if it is a female it will most likely piss on the floor every time the doorbell rings. She’ll outgrow it when she’s about 6 years old.

If that is something you are concerned about I encourage a lot of people to go more towards standard goldendoodles or bernedoodles. Bernedoodles will have a much gentler and calmer temperament despite their size compared to a goldendoodle because goldenretriever+poodle is two high energy lineages that almost guarantees hyperactivity. Bernese+poodle is generally mellow and gentle. Generally calm enough that they won’t wreck your house despite their size, great with kids, not yippie, won’t piss, hypoallergenic, low shedding, cute as fuck.

Just my 2 cents. I deal with pet owners all day everyday and that’s just something most mini doodle, cockadoodle, yorkiepoo, etc owners complain about.

If you haven’t chosen a breeder I might have some directions to point you with whatever you choose. I don’t get kickbacks, but I have a good idea of who is reputable in the area from a genetics standpoint so I do try to steer people.

Thanks, we talked to a vet in Wichita and he pointed in a direction for where to get the dog. MrsBootleg is set on a male mini golden doodle

I'd go with Rex.... Solid name and a great RB.

My girls named ours Teddy... But he's a full size and looks a bit like a Teddy Bear. My girls worked on me for 5 years.... It took them about 5 days to start complaining about taking him outside to the bathroom and for walks.

Got him in October... He's been a good dog so far. My middle daughter needed hypoallergenic as well and she has had zero issue. First pic was 9 weeks... He's now 20 weeks and tripled in size. Likes to chew... Potty trained almost immediately... Sleeps all night. Can't complain too much. 20211023_100104.jpg20220107_224625.jpg

Wow, that might some explain some things with my wife’s dog that I thought were just random. She’s a mini golden doodle. She’s insane and pees everytime someone walks through the door with excitement, excluding me and my wife cause she obviously sees us the most

I think the biggest thing for me is that you basically always gotta be home.

I like dogs when I see them but it seemed more heartless to me to lock the pup up 9 hrs a day.
Thankfully I WFH, so not an issue for us. The dogs get as much time outside as they want, but if we’re need to go somewhere for the day, they have never peed or pooped inside for up to 12 hours (never been longer than that).
Both took less than a week to potty train, and haven’t been in a crate since. Neither will even let you put your hand in their mouth, let alone bite anyone or gnaw on them. Some of that is luck of the draw, some is the breed, and some is training, but I’m unlikely to ever have any other type of dog. English Setters have spoiled the shit out of me.

Yep. We basically call it “brain doesn’t match the bladder.”

There’s a genetic relationship between the physical size of the dog (including it’s bladder) and the part of the brain that allows it to hold it in. When a dog gets excited, it sends some impulses to its bladder that it needs to pee, much like when humans get nervous we feel we need to pee.

Most large dogs and small pure bred dogs are able to hold it in. With small hybrids and designer breeds, the females will typically release the same or similar dopamine levels when excited as their larger counterparts. The problem is that while this signal is the same size, a small designer/hybrid female may have a bladder 1/4 or 1/8 the size that it’s brain was designed to control.

It can sometimes happen with bigger hybrids like standard golden doodles if there was a significant size difference between the parents, but happens 90%+ of the time to varying degrees in a designer breed where a large dog was bred down in size using a mini-poodle. Hence why I recommend the larger poodle-hybrids.

Should be good with a male in terms of what I was talking about.
