Agree the assistant hires sucked ass. Wasn’t Rhules request to have a huge assistant salary pool?

#2ndChoice woulda put together a helluva staff with that checkbook. Remember we were his first choice.

I wasn't stoked about the Satterfield hire and I was disappointed with the retention of Raiola.

But I'm not going to sit around and bitch about it before they've coached a game under Rhule. Negative crap in the offseason is as annoying as the positive crap when it isn't based on anything. It's all conjecture and opinion right now. Let's wait to decide if they are worth a damn after a couple of games.

I was sick of the offseason positive spin that Frost got when there were years of evidence that he was an absolute failure. But this is different as we don't have evidence of Rhule's system not working, if it fails then have at it, but let's not bitch about it until it has shown us something.

Offensively. Again. I’m going off what I see.

Don’t like Donnie.

I think Rhule knows how to play the pandering game of fat running backs and Nebraskas history.

Rhules offenses haven’t been stellar running the ball statistically. But they’ve increased their win totals every year. Win = more important to stats. I’d love to light the world and fire and score a fuck ton of points. But as long as it amounts to wins. I don’t care.

I don’t buy into the pro style qb recruiting. They’re D1 athletes. They can run. They aren’t game breakers. But they all can run enough to fit the scheme. They want dudes that can throw the football first. Not athletes that can run and teach them to throw serviceably. Personally think they’ll use Haarberg in a wildcat style role. But that’s just a pure guess.

The fat running back camp. Zero fucks. It’s pure publicity IMO and a chance to see more Nebraska kids. That’s it.

I think you over estimate the pressure and base it off mostly Frost sucking a fat bag of dicks. He’s always been an arrogant asshole. That didn’t change. He was the same way at UCF. They just had a roster with NFL dudes playing in a junk conference winning shootouts. It’s obvious now, not so much then. At least IMO.

I don’t think the talent is so far off that it’s a year one suck under Rhule. At least I hope not. Outside of the LB coach. I think the D staff is really solid. Tony White I really like from the little Ive seen of him.

IMO. They’re going to try and play solid defense this year. Protect the ball. And be efficient to win games vs a schedule that isn’t just overwhelmingly daunting. Then adjust from there as you pick up some steam and clout from building.

If they can win and make a bowl. Will be easy to just point. Same trajectory Rhule has done before. Get on board on the road to 10+ wins.

And he’s obviously not afraid to trim the fat. He can say all he wants about dudes staying if they want, blah blah blah. Whatever. They had over 100 scholly guests and got it down to the 85 limit. The dude isn’t Fuckikg around.

Will also be interested to see how the S&C guy does. So far, I think he’s a good hire.

And the support staff and other people he surrounded himself with seem to be top notch and driven. Feel bad Dave Ellis was ousted. But besides Donnie. Anyone associated with Frost has been shown the door. That an Guinta.
You are more trusting than I am and I probably have unrealistic expectations. I just don't understand why it is so hard to put together a complete staff. Why do we already have deadweight that we all know is deadweight? Fuck, it doesn't seem that hard to me.

I also don't want to just get back to 6,7,8 wins and say ya fuck it, that is good enough. In my opinion, we need to catch some sort of lightning in a bottle to prove to folks that you can actually win again at Nebraska and compete at the top end of the conference. You can win 6-10 games literally anywhere but right now we are so much at the mercy of our schedules.

We need dudes who are conference caliber and NFL draft picks and we need talent infusion badly. In today's world of CFBALL we can't fill 1/2 of our class from fucking camp offers when we are the best offer for most of these kids. Again, look at our history and look at how that has worked out for us. Good players aren't hidden anymore, if you can play you will have multiple P5 offers and in a hurry.

Proof will be in the pudding soon enough but I am fully mentally prepared to start this year 0-2 or worse because we are Nebraska.

Agree on Satterfield but I’m ok with Raiola, apparently the OL really connects with him and if Rhule can help out a bit I think we’ll be fine at OL in a couple years. Satterfield though seems to be a beta, I really hope he proves me wrong but I’ll be surprised.

The “learning on the job” thing annoys the shit out of me… tough situation when Rhule is a young coach mentor guru or whatever.

I don't think Turd hired Rhule with the intention that 8 wins is good enough. I also don't think Rhule hired these guys with expectations that they would only be able to give him 8 wins. Rhule micromanages literally everything and I don't know when the guy sleeps. We haven't had a guy put in this kind of an effort since Callahan. Callahan's problem was he just wasn't a good head coach. If Rhule can get these young guys sending guys to the league and start winning games, you'll stop complaining pretty fast. Just chill out and wait things out. This is supposed to be the best part of a new hire. Stop acting like literally everyone ever hired by the university is out to get the fans.

Let me guess. You’re a motivational speaker, right?

Usually the best part of a new hire is the recruiting momentum it brings. This staff has seemed to miss out on that memo. I’m glad that competing with eastern illinois and southern missouri state for recruits is acceptable to some of you.

If you ask me it’s a fucking joke especially with the resources we have. We just built a brand new facility right? Rhule is taking a page out of the Pelini playbook with the whole “we cant recruit to nebraska so just go take all the reaches” approach. Gross, would expect more from a guy who works so hard. Also how’d never sleeping work out for our last coach? You act like thats a good thing?

I don’t hate the premise, but I think the conclusions you’re getting to are wrong and the extreme is slightly over the top here.

There’s no reason Nebraska can’t or shouldn’t be a top 20 team in terms of talent every year, period. Get there however you will. But get there. I’m just not seeing the methods that I’m confident would work employed at the moment.

I’m fine with the staff not going on a star search to appease the fans. Emphasizing scouting & development won’t generate a lot of excitement for a couple years but if they’re doing a great job of it, it’ll yield better results than getting the 4 star rejects that have given us a 4% return. Hopefully after win then we can take it to the next level unlike Cockeye who chose to stay in their lane.

It feels far more likely that Rhule & Co have targeted higher ranked prospects but they're just not interested. I don't blame Rhule for not wanting to wait on highly ranked guys only to be left holding the bag, especially if they have low confidence in a commit.

I'd much prefer this approach than waiting to reach in December, especially if they're confident in their summer evals.

What part about these new guys do you see as unacceptable? Is it just the star rating? The LB and the DB have great size and I guarantee you Rhule didn't offer them before thoroughly watching them run drills while looking over his own stop watch numbers. The olinemen may only be an inch or two short of receiving all kinds of offers. Nebraska used to live off olinemen that didn't have typical height. If the kid is nasty and kicks ass out there he'll be better than the majority of the linemen we've seen since Pelini.

Matthew Anderson 5.6
Ronald Thompkins 5.7
Jackson Hannah 5.8
Luke McCaffrey 5.7
Desmond Bland 5.8
Rahmir Johnson 5.8
Ethan Piper 5.5
Garrett Snodgrass 5.6
Garret Nelson 5.7

Frost class at the same point. 3 4 stars one of which never made it to campus the other never played amd transferred to walk on at Tennessee. We were the only ones offering McCaffrey as a QB.

I remember being excited about this class. What shit it ended up being.

One of the points that I have found to be most persuasive for our apparent inability get traction with higher rated players (for whatever that's worth) is that these recruits's formative years in following football have overlapped with us being absolutely shitty on the football field. They aren't even old enough to remember the Pelini years
