The kid has the yips mentally right now. That's not an easy thing to fix quickly, especially if he's really dealing with the injuries that have been reported.

As someone that battles the yips in baseball for a short period of time, I can tell you that it wouldn't matter how good the coach was to fix that.
This is not a minor point. Even earlier in this season he was hitting first reads, now, he isn’t. He seems spooked.

When Rhule arrived, I think he wanted to get rolling quickly and that required people who knew the culture he wanted to instill and the type of offense he wanted to run -one that complemented a good D by keeping the D off the field as much as possible, which in turns allows a team to control a game. The plan was likely for Satt to stay 2-3 years and then move on a an HC job.

The problem has been that the current offense personnel does not have the ability to execute the offense he designed offense against the talent on the schedule. This is not a problem of misjudging his own talent as much as it is a faulty assessment of how quickly talent levels at other places might improve. I think Rhule backhandedly suggested this today when he said there was so much parity in the B1G that it made it hard to make up move up in the standings. He may have to change his offensive approach and that may affect the defense - it likely will. This will be a huge test of his ability to adapt.

Why aren't we hiring coaches with proven track records instead of buddy hires when we're paying top 10 money. Why would we pay a guy top 10 OC money with zero seasons of even top 75 performance to come here. It's incompetence, it's fucking immoral for a public university that has a more stringent hiring process for fucking fry cooks.

Matt Rhule has lost me until proven otherwise. Dudes a clown and a joke. Maybe coaches just come here to grift us of money for themselves and friends because they know they can. There's no point in debating any nuance about it like maybe these guys could just do this then maybe they could work out. They're unqualified that's all there is to it. You're not going to fix them.

Anyone who was being honest with themselves when Rhule picked his staff could see some of the assistants were not qualified or worth what they are getting paid to be a coach at Nebraska. When I saw Rhule’s whole staff after he was hired I was very skeptical. Hopefully he makes the right off season firings and hires so this doesnt end up another rinse and repeat episode.

I think quite a feel people were skeptical and actually voiced that on here but gave him the benefit of the doubt because his coaching tree was impressive.

Is that correct or am I misremembering?

This is true, I felt the same at the time. It's only college football and not life or death so it's easy to just give the benefit of the doubt and hope it works out. To be fair if we were rolling right now it wouldn't be an issue.

I believe that Rhule has moved on from Satterfield (or will get there by Dec 1). I'm kind of shocked at the amount of people who think he'll be back.

Here's my reasons/data points:
  1. Satt is a top 8 paid OC, ranks in bottom 30 in production
  2. NU has not won a game where opponent has scored more than 14 pts in Rhule's tenure
  3. ROSTER: I believe many of our top offensive players like Fidone, Barney, Carter Nelson etc may look to transfer if Satterfield is back in 2025
  4. RECRUITING: I believe we will struggle recruiting top end WRs/RBs if Satterfield stays on
  5. STAFF: simply replacing RB and WR position coaches does not address #3-4
  6. Satterfield has already sold his Lincoln home & rumor that wife/daughter moved back to South Carolina (in a vacuum wouldn't mean much but in this situation...)
  7. Media are openly asking Rhule if Satterfield is going to get fired
  8. When asked 'what does the offense do well?' Rhule shrugged his shoulders 🤷🏻‍♂️ (clip below)
  9. Rhule is needing to bring in outside sources to help diagnose what's going wrong on offense (not good if you're the OC)
  10. Fan apathy. Rhule knows he can't afford to run it back in 2025 with no major changes or you may see repercussions at the gate
  11. Rhule didn't defend Satt in his recent press conferences. He DID defend Satt after the 2023 season.

This is all assuming Nebraska does not go 3-0 vs USC, Wisconsin and Cockeye. If that happened then all bets are off. But I think at best they could go 1-2 & that wouldn't change anything.

Do I think Satterfield needs fired yes but that's the equivalent of having dog shit in your house not cleaning it and just spraying febreeze. If Raiola is retained you could put the best oc in college football in and it won't matter. If you can't block it takes everything away.
