@B1G_10_Tony - Caught these sons 'a bitches at Glen Elder, KS. Couldn't hardly find one under 12" (1" shy of Polk length).Definitely the biggest crappies I've ever caught. A handful 16 or just a little under. Longest was close to 17.
Are there even fish left in that lake these days? When I lived in the Twin Cities in the late '80's most of the avid fishermen I knew said it was about "fished out" back then. That didn't stop them from setting up their ice huts in the winter to get away from their wives on weekends, but nobody ever talked about how great the fishing was.I'd be finding someone that knows smallie fishing in Mille Lacs

I think the walleye fishing took a dip. They've put in heavier restrictions the last few years like no targeting walleyes or fishing with live bait in July. Are there even fish left in that lake these days? The concentration of men in ice huts did spawn other 'satellite industries', however. They all talked about the random knocks on the door with female inquires, "Are y'all looking for a date?" Apparently, the hookers would migrate up there on weekends to take advantage of the prospective audience. I always found that amusing and inspiring: capitalism at it's finest, IMO. 😉
I need to go there sometime. Is that a walleye on the top right?@B1G_10_Tony - Caught these sons 'a bitches at Glen Elder, KS. Couldn't hardly find one under 12" (1" shy of Polk length).

My family used to vacation there every year. One year we timed it when the gar was spawning and that, my friend, was a blast. You just cast a leech right next to the rocks and held on. We pulled in several 4 pound largemouth bass, countless big channel cats, and then just a random assortment of fish. I believe there's a joint, in Cawker City, that claims to have the world's best-fried chicken. It was good but it gave everyone the shits so jury is still out on "world's greatest".@B1G_10_Tony - Caught these sons 'a bitches at Glen Elder, KS. Debating on if I should post my breakdown of best chicken Fry places in NW Kansas
Strouds in Hays is #1 for me but after that I’d go Cafe at Damar, the Reload in Oberlin (only on Fridays), Bruffs in Oakley, joslyn grocery store in Hoxie, town & country in Norton and the Cafe in Selden
Did you not shoulder mount him?? What did you do to the cape?? Great buck.
Yep, we snagged a couple of walleye but we were intent on catching crappie that time of year. Took the drive over to Kerwin the next day, either that year or the next, and just knocked the shit out of the walleye.I need to go there sometime. Is that a walleye on the top right?
definitely have had many busch lights at the cawker city bar. think i've just had burgers, not fried chicken though. My family used to vacation there every year. Lee’s chicken at the gas station in Downs is pretty good if you grew up in rural America
I miss good fried chicken. There is a diner, in Anchorage, that has been open since the '50s. They specialize in some pretty damn good pan-fried chicken but everything else they make is meh.Debating on if I should post my breakdown of best chicken Fry places in NW Kansas

Smattering of some photos through the years. Just getting my mounts hung at home after a bit of basement reno. Live for this stuff—luckily have a relatively supportive wife despite hanging a 20 month old and a new baby in July.
