Might be a dumb question, but I'm sure I've asked dumber, are raccoons considered vermin and therefore you can trap/shoot as many as you want?

Also, what happens if you're trying to trap one animal in season and another is on your trap and dead. Report it to the game warden and off you go?
Vermin to me but the answer is no. They are a fur bearing animal and you have to follow the regulations for harvest.

I don’t have any traps set that will kill so if you’re brave enough you can release any unwanted animal. Or SSS

each State has their own definition of "vermin" or "varmint"

generally, if the State has a species classified as "vermin/varmint" then it is considered an undesirable animal that causes nuisance and/or issues for the local population of animals/people

to combat/curb this nuisance animal most States grant an exception to that "vermin/varmint" animal for seasonal hunting/trapping and rules/regulations on hunting/trapping (AKA: No Rules, hunt/trap/kill it however you want/can whenever you want)

Some States have a season for these animals but when the season is like 10 months...its basically year long go nuts.

Either way, if the animal you have killed/trapped is classified in the State as a "Vermin" or "Varmint" you are very unlikely to be in violation of a State Statute and if you are in violation.... highly unlikely the local Game & Park/Fisheries & Wildlife officer will even file.

My wife got puppy fever, my only demand is we get some sort of hound that I can use for tracking and rabbit/squirrel hunting.

Well today she found a rescue litter of Redbone Coonhound Puppies and we submitted our paperwork to get one.

Anyone have an experience training tracking dogs here? Know anyone that trains dogs in the Lincoln Area?

I don't know about tracking, but I could give you a few names of guys I know that are huge into training hunting dogs in Lincoln. They're mostly into waterfowl but if nothing else they could probably point you in the right direction. Send me a PM

Oh god, if coon hides were still $20 I’d have already bought the fanciest thermal I could find and ordered the sexiest AR build I could fathom.

One night in my kayak along one of the public lakes within 30 minutes of my house and I’d have my money back
I remember when my old man used to bring $100s back from the fur trader

Hammered the rainbows today. Probably the last weekend, maybe, we will be able to drive on the lakes. About 12-14 inches of ice depending on where we drilled our holes.
