OT—cooking thread

That's usually made with a bunch of garlic, not onions. And skip the cilantro, just put it on your taco by itself if you want some. It's usually pretty mild, BTW.
I need to make some. I might do less onion and more garlic and see how it shakes out. Never gonna skimp on cilantro though

On the topic of seasonings, this is another one I've been using a lot lately. Black garlic is tasty, it's fermented until it loses the pungent sharpness you normally think of with garlic, and you're left with a taste that's sweet and savory and much more subtle (too mild for use in a BBQ rub). This is a seasoning blend that my neighborhood grocer has for $4.

Of course, you can also just buy it whole. The type of garlic typically used has a single large clove inside the head.

First meal of Holi weekend

I have to go to 3 different parties this weekend in Columbus, Omaha and Lincoln. (in this order)

Been pounding Tito’s and Tonic in the garage with my BILs and wife’s cousins. I’m 8 shots deep and already feel like I’m about to throw up. GONNA BE A LONG WEEKERND

Things from Kinder's that are NOT awesome: sugar free BBQ sauce. 🤢

If you want a BBQ sauce without sugar, try an eastern NC style, which is mostly vinegar and red pepper, or an old-school Kansas City style like Zarda Original, which is almost more like a spice paste without much sugar.

I love when stuff is 0 sugar but then the first ingredient is high fructose corn syrup.

If the cattlemen had lobbyists like the corn growers association have had for 40 years there wouldn’t be any problems in the beef industry.

Funny you say that. I actually know someone who is a lobbyist for Nebraska beef. Not a fan of him personally so I assume he sucks at his job.

Turns out that I like cultured butters. Aldi's Irish butter ain't bad for the money. And yeah, most American butters are awful, whether it's store brand or Land o' Lakes.

Just to keep it in the food thread instead of making another post… @HuskerGarrett if you haven’t tried Lowery Beer Garden, between Colfax and Parker Rd, please do. Great brew selection from all over Denver and holy shit their brats and other food is amazing. It’s 100% run by former service members, great environment, mostly outdoor so plan it on a sunny day.
