Our tradition:

For Christmas Eve we'll be pan cooking jumbo shrimp in a decadent (home made) creamy garlic and dill sauce -served with asiago bread.

We also sear an aged rib eye in garlic, butter, salt and pepper in a cast iron skillet. Slice it as an appetizer - and serve with the the same asiago bread.

Christmas Day or Monday - oven roasted rib roast. Dean's recipe that's not really his recipe. Along with fresh pan sauteed green beans and red potatoes. Along with some nice strong horseradish.

Christmas Eve is a traditional oyster stew at Casa de LHR. The clan Patriarch (my Dad) insists on it. For those of you who enjoy this kind of thing, the family recipe:

Recipe - Oyster Stew
1 Teaspoon - Worcestershire Sauce
1/4 Cup - Butter
1 Pint - Fresh Oysters
2 Cups - Fresh Milk
1/2 Cup - Light Cream
1 Teaspoon - Salt
Dash - Pepper
Dash - Paprika
Pinch - Cayenne Pepper (crushed red pepper)

Pan #1
Melt butter in small saucepan.
Add oysters.
Cook and stir over low heat just until the edges of the oysters curl.

Pan #2
In another saucepan, heat milk and cream (do NOT curdle the milk).
Once this begins to steam, stir in the salt, pepper, paprika and oysters.
Season to preference (I like to add extra cayenne pepper & paprika in mine).

Makes four (4) servings - 1 cup each.

Your stew has more ingredients than mine, but it seems the extras would enhance.

Fresh oysters and fresh milk. Where do you get those? I hope it just means canned oysters and grocery store milk that aren't expired, otherwise I'm afraid I won't be able to try out your recipe.

Hy-Vee carries fresh oysters. Talk to the folks behind the counter in the seafood section. Might be a tad scarce at this late hour, though.

Today = lunch and snacks: Shrimp cocktail and charcuterie board but almost all of it is cheese. Supper: brisket nachos, homemade Queso, homemade salsa, homemade guac.

Christmas Day = breakfast: local smoked Bacon, cream cheese eggs and cinnamon rolls. Lunch: Oyster Stew. Supper: Prime Rib, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn spaghetti casserole and homemade rolls.
