The back channel talks are bc the Big10 has US on the clock. We are in jeopardy of being booted bc we aren’t an AAU school (& are the WORST men’s program competitively in the big10) & is part of the reason why Turd left.
We were bumbling around naming a president & we’d already been given an ultimatum by the Big10
We need to win now to ensure an attractive dance partner if Armageddon happens & we are shown the door
If we had been a good football program since we joined they would most likely look the other way about the AAU status and we wouldn’t be in this predicament. My understanding of the situation is we aren’t on the chopping block by any means YET but if we don’t at least show some improvement in research funding then “who knows what the future holds”

Ya I’m calling total BS on this one

Big ten won’t do that, you kick Nebraska you loose some tv money, really not point in them doing that
eyeballs get less & less the if we continue to be how we’ve been
Keep in mind only Vanderbilt has a longer Bowl-less streak than us & last yr we had an offense that was as boring as Cockeye’s
This is not a trajectory that translates to TV value.
The AAU stuff means something to big10 presidents. Right now we bring zero to the league.
Do you really think the SEC is reaching out to Nebraska when our current state is Far behind the former Big10 west schools
Turd left bc we weren’t making progress to hire a president to work on rectifying the AAU issue (which there is no guarantee we’ll ever be readmitted)
When relegation starts to occur, we don’t want to be continually below .500 or barely above .500. The Big12 may not even want us at that point.
Our peer right now is Vanderbilt that has zero value in a renegotiated TV deal, we have no value academically & bring nothing in other revenue sports
We have to win now & win more than just being bowl eligible. We have to return to being a top25 program

Also we would clearly dominate in the SEC.

B1G didn’t kick out PSU, MSU, OSU, and Michigan for their scandals, but they would kick out Nebraska due to not being AAU?

We weren't invited, and still comfortably in, because of wins and losses.

We are in because of the sellout streak, because of tv ratings and because fans, like you, are discussing Nebraska football in July. Nebraska is still relevant today and has a big following, as long as that happens then we aren't going anywhere.

None of this is true
But there are 5 pages believing the SEC is wooing us behind the scenes
A school 30 years from their last Naty, over 20 years since their last conference title & over 10 years since their last conference title game appearance.
Oh & let’s throw in 8 seasons since their last bowl game with an offense that makes paint drying look exciting
The only truth is if/when relegation occurs, bc of what appears to be an imminent ACC collapse, our place in the Big10 may be in peril. We are nothing like the other member schools & what got us into the big10 originally is ancient history.
We have to start winning soon.

Yeah anyone acting like the B10 cares how much we win is a clown. It’s all about money & even though we suck we still bring in more money than most of the big ten. IMO the AAU shit is way over blown too

Those citing AAU as a reason the conference would want to kick us out is the biggest crock of shit.

1. We lost AAU membership because Wisconsin and Michigan voted to kick us out. We needed 21 votes to stay in but those schools voted us out because of the de-emphasis on ag research on AAU metrics. Why? Because fuck ‘em, that’s why!

2. We are still a Carnegie R1 “Very High” research activity school. Suck it.

3. If we get our shit together and consolidate UNK, UNL, UNO, and UNMC under the same umbrella BOOM our magical AAU certification comes back. All because some self-important nerds turned admins say so.

AAU is ass my dudes.

Because winning in football = criteria in the B1G.

Look, I know you're a regular troll, but I'm going to entertain this line of thought trolling.

First, UNMC gets funding from the B1G. The UNMC has a very good cancer program, so if the B1G kicked us out and that money goes away from programs like the UNMC cancer research, then the ripple effect to the other research facilities would be pretty outrageous.

Second, do you know not we came 2nd in the Volleyball NCAA last year? You're basing membership once again only off of football, but where are the other sports? Volleyball, basketball (both M and W), wrestling, and baseball, we're very good in and have been ranked pretty high for years. Not to mention, volleyball just got national headlines a year ago for the top selling crowd of all time for any woman's sport. So in your mind, that's still not good enough for the B1G to be like, 'yeah, this won't hurt our brand'?

Third and once again, if Penn State, who is not a founding member of the B1G, didn't get kicked out when Sandusky was brought to attention of touching boys on the PSU campus, then do you really believe B1G will kick Nebraska out because of AAU status? And it's not like we're an Big 12 or SEC school in terms of not trying back into AAU status.

Go back and read OP’s post. Nowhere did he say the SEC is wooing Nebraska or even that they want us. What they did say is Nebraska and PSU are unhappy in the B1G and have been having behind the scenes discussions with the SEC. What he didn’t say is what the SEC’s position on this is.

I think culturally - which is obviously secondary to monetary concerns - we are much closer to the B1G than the SEC.

Not saying one is better than the other from a long term fit perspective but holy shit people need to go to Louisiana or Mississippi and see for themselves.
