Breaking Coaching Carousel ‘21

Do you fellas think this is the craziest coaching carousel you can remember? Below is a table of the changes in the last 7 cycles. This is the only year with over 2 coaching changes at blue blood schools, but 2017 seems like it may have been a more wild ride overall (and we thought we won the lottery that year). The craziest part about this year seems to be the giant contracts and the coaches jumping to other (big name) schools (from already big name schools) instead of being fired.

Only thing remotely close is 2017 - but even that was filled with so many "we know who's landing where" hires that it wasn't all that exciting. A ton of movement, sure, but mostly known results. A couple of surprises in there - but this year has been nothing but surprise so far.

Agreed. And with OU and Notre Dame (and possibly Miami), seems like we could still see more dominos continue to fall and more coaches getting poached.

This rabbit hole got me wondering about Matt Luke, who got ran out of Ole MIss. He's the Associate HC and Oline coach at Georgia now. I'm guessing he'll be in line for the carousel in the next couple of years.

Man, the CFB coaching carousel is brutal. OU’s DL coach was hired to follow Lincoln Riley to USC and then days after OU’s season ends and he gets ready to go out to LA he’s stolen away to be DL coach at LSU.

Venables poaching Clemson’s DL coach.


Clemson will be interesting to follow in the near future. They lost big time coordinators on both sides of the ball and replaced them all internally with Co-DCs with no coordinator experience and an OC whose only coordinator experience came at Liberty and Richmond almost a decade ago. Now they’re losing their DL coach.
