Breaking Coaching Carousel ‘21

You could even look the other way during the covid season. Michigan was horrible. Now look at them.

Penn St, Michigan, and Wisconsin all finished sub-.500. Anyone would have had to have been stupid to think that some stuff meant anything during COVID

I think he had to also look at staying at OU from the perspective what if I have a couple down years? It means you’re getting fired. The chances are much lower at USC. One other thing people might be overlooking is that he can have a private life. Most people in LA won’t even know who he is walking down the street.
And would anyone in their right mind (that has money) want to live in Norman over Los Angeles?

Do you fellas think this is the craziest coaching carousel you can remember? Below is a table of the changes in the last 7 cycles. This is the only year with over 2 coaching changes at blue blood schools, but 2017 seems like it may have been a more wild ride overall (and we thought we won the lottery that year). The craziest part about this year seems to be the giant contracts and the coaches jumping to other (big name) schools (from already big name schools) instead of being fired.

Agreed. And with OU and Notre Dame (and possibly Miami), seems like we could still see more dominos continue to fall and more coaches getting poached.
Absolutely - this will be a sloooow burn until it's all over.

If Miami comes open I think it will be after the bowl season. I just don't see them making a move before hiring an AD.

Just from looking at the total changes number, a lot of this year's wave is probably just the result of restraint in changes following the bullshit 2020 season - moves are being made now that would otherwise have happened last year. As Baron said, though, the big names being poached are what's really striking.
