2022 Nebraska HC Board

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but why should that matter? Both are terrible and are indicative of how terrible this staff is.
I agree. There is no question in my mind he should be fired. The question is will he?

That you, Brandon??

After tonight I’m leaning towards making the obvious calls to Stoops, Urb, and Chris Peterson, but after that, Kellen Moore is my #1. The receiver talent is already here to run his offense especially if they could keep Brown in the CD Lamb role. Bankroll his defensive staff and let him go to work calling plays and coaching QBs.

When the top guys like #2ndChoice, Kiffin, Aranda, Campbell, O’Brien likely turn us down and we’re evaluating our 2nd tier candidates where does Tom Herman fit in on that list? To me he’s a solid candidate that would be an intriguing interview if I’m Turd. He’s currently just a quality control coach on the Chicago Bears, so he’s someone that you could gauge interest with immediately.

He’s obviously not a hot commodity right now but he’s had success as a HC at a high profile program, is known as a top notch recruiter, has coached in the B1G, and you know he’d bring in the best staff possible. He checks a lot of boxes for me and I feel like he got pushed out at UT because of the political rift with the administration over the stupid “The Eyes of Texas” song plus his record over OU didn’t help. Either way a raw deal imo.

I don’t think he is a bad coach but there may be a riot in Nebraska if he was named coach

I really don’t think the Nebraska job is in the stratosphere to be talking #2ndChoice, Kiffen, Campbell, Aranda and O’Brien.

The shitty thing is this fan base is going to get all jazzed about names like those even though they’re not realistic and then have a Mike Riley-ish reaction to whoever we hire

My only genuine question. Lots of "he would work here" in that initial list. Maybe it's just cause I'm beat down from the last 4 years, but how the hell does anyone know whose going to work here given the last 15 years just because of success or average success elsewhere? That's literally why Frost was hired. I'm out on Frost after Saturday, but I'm sure "he would work here" has been said lots of times in the last decade and a half. Just don't want another Mike Riley reaction at a car dealership on a Saturday morning wondering who the hell we just hired is.

This is where I’m at but to take it a step further - I’m worried we’re now a program that has sunk low enough that we’re going to have to keep hiring Mike Riley like names and hope one of them is a home run. We’re not in the “sure-thing” market anymore even though when we were in that market Scott Frost and Bo Pelini were the closest thing to sure-things that we hired.

i think hes the next cowboys coach

I know a lot of people are in disputes over this but I honestly believe we're very close to becoming a stepping stone program for up and coming coaches. We are just not elite or a "dream job" anymore. That's reality. Look, I'm done with this Frost thing and this garbage offense but man I'm honestly worried about a failed coaching search because bigger names won't touch it. Then what?

How can Bo Pelini possibly be in the “sure thing” category when he was hired? He had no head coaching experience and not that much CFB experience.

He got hired as part of a two candidate process (the second of whom was Turner Gill) because he had a tie to Frank Solich and fans liked him from his one year as DC.

He was the exact opposite of a sure thing when hired.

He might not come here, but Dave Aranda is at soon to be group of 6 Baylor and you don’t think he’d consider Nebraska considering what Nebraska can offer financially?

Meh I agree with you. Just at the time it felt that way because of his time as a DCoord here. It’s just hard to remember the feelings on things in hindsight

I mean, there are only a few schools that you would consider that are the elite schools that are the final stepping stones. Alabama, USC, Ohio State, and maybe Texas. Every other school is technically a stepping stone to another opportunity, mainly the NFL.

With that said, I also feel like it's a double edge sword on who we hire. We may hire a good coach who is very honest, loyal, and modest who views Nebraska as their elite school. But then we may a good coach who will bolt at the first NFL or school-like USC when they get Nebraska rolling.

I'm really not worried at this point. Let's get someone who has a good track record of producing good teams with chances at years with a great chance.

This year showed that Clemson can be down. This year showed that OU can have its shaky moments. This year showed us that the top of the SEC will not always be Alabama. So let's find a coach that is going to keep us in that wheel when those other teams have their down years so we can leap on those opportunities. And if that leads us to a situation where that coach bails on us, then at least we had opportunities where we're on top.

You don’t think he’ll get a better offer with equal money but better recruiting base? The Nebraska name just doesn’t carry any weight anymore. Now when Nebraska knocks on the door it is closer to a call from KSU than from even Texas

He would consider a bigger financial offer, but would it be enough where he would use that as leverage. I think LSU goes after him and he takes it. We'll see though.
