Don't forsee that OL happening. Think that Hunter starts at one of the tackles depending on the health of Teddy P. and Corcoran. Even if they are both healthy I could see Teddy P. at LT, Hunter at RT, and Turner at RG. Hixson and Piper seem the most likely for the Center spot, I would have been willing to put Turner there, but with him missing the spring I think he will go anywhere but there, Nouilli will most likely be one of the guards most likely LG if Turner is healthy.

I wonder if Turner may end up at C and Benhart at G.

This is JMO, Turner moving to C without spring ball is asking a lot of him.

To me the safer play would be to bump them down.
LT Teddy
LG Turner
C Nouili
RG Benhart
RT Hunter

My impression of Benhart is that he didn't have the foot speed to be an OT. I don't know if his set was off and that could help, but my initial impression is he lacked the foot speed to keep up with speed rushers. Move him inside and that weakness gets minimized and he can use his size more. 🤷‍♂️

I had forgot about Turner being out this Spring and that is a very valid point. I also completely agree with Benharts lack of foot speed. He was beat off the ball and unable to recover consistently. Interested to see how Williams fits into the picture and if his FCS experience can translate to the FBS level. Seems like more of a reserve but still intrigued by how he looks this spring.

It wouldn't be shocked at all.
Have our WR coaches been THAT bad recently? Feels like outside of Manning and Betts we have brought in a massive amount of non P5 contributors, could make the same argument at RB as well. I doubted Walters ability to be an OC (which he really wasnt) but figured he would at minimum be average at WR coach. Held talked the talk but man oh man was he piss poor at development and talent evaluation.

I think Lubbick was a very average WR coach and wasn't a good fit for what we needed. I have heard a lot of complaints about how bad he related to the WRs in that room.

Lubbick as a OC/pass game was pretty good conceptually. Struggled in other areas, but our passing attack was pretty good IYAM.

I mean we are really young at that spot.

  • Soph
    • Betts
    • Brown
  • R FR.
    • Grimes
    • Nixon
    • Hardy
    • Neville
  • FR.
    • Bonner
    • Crawford
    • Jones
9/13 guys in that room have 3+ years of eligibility left.
  • Junior class
    • IGC
    • Palmer
  • Senior
    • Manning
    • Martin
All your upper classmen are transfers.

Damon has said that he feels/Frost has said "he took chances on kids who he normally wouldn't have because of him wanting to win right away." I guess guys like Flemming who is one of the more talented guys we have recruited. He also has referenced a switch in what they need at WR to the B1G. That is why the older players are transfers.

JMO, we downgraded as far as WR coach when we went Walters -> Lubick IYAM.

Now, from everything I have been told, Mickey is the best WR coach we have had. Williams is the only WR coach who is close to Mickey that we have had.

Held talked the talk but man oh man was he piss poor at development and talent evaluation.
Held was awful.

Couldn't develop a relationship to IWCC
Couldn't develop or manage his roster
Decent recruiter, but I think perception of him was higher than what he was.

To me, this was more observant after this year. You could make excuses for the first three years, but this year, it was easy to ask, “wtf is going on in the RB rotation?!?”

Held might be a nice guy, but our running game was abysmal every year except the first year, but that’s when we had Ozgibo in his senior year.

Exactly, Helds best year was with a guy that was developed by Riley for 3 years. He never showed the ability to recruit elite RB's or develop elite RB's. This years RB class (especially Ajay) seem to be the better backs over the last handful of years.

I understand the youth movement at the WR position which is mostly due to the number of strikeouts that occurred the first few years of Frost which is more the direction I was going. What scares me is that Frost was attempting to "win right now". There has to be many better ways to accomplish this than what Frost did considering practically every coach that ever sniffed success would have won more than he lost in a season by now.

I am still so stumped at the lack of relationship built at IWCC. As an IWCC alum and knowing the program that was created (I went when program first formed) it boggles my mind that that school isnt a feeder program for us at this point.

I agree that Held was spun as this amazing coach and elite recruiter but that was quite a ways away from the truth. He was more of an average recruiter and below average coach.

I also know that Frost is a bit happier these days. He stretched himself far too thin to try and cover up the incompetence of certain members of his staff thus taking away from him as the HC. Hopefully this results in a better overall product on the field.

PS I appreciate the interaction. I am also on huskerboard and used to contribute to another board that shall not be named ha.

I want Lutovsky on the line. I have been high on him since his signing. Get him in the mix at least. I am just praying that Austin was in fact a problem area - gives me a reinvigorated hope for Benhart if so. He was too big of a get and has too good of measurables to just be a "yeah he sucks" guy.

Luto will be a beast. Maybe not this year, but he will be eventually.
