Sign Up Now!Is it standard operating procedure for airlines to make sure your connecting flights are almost always the furthest point away from each other in the airport?
Cool. I’m jealous, and thus, I hate you.Well, something positive from an airline.
Last week, I received an interesting email from my good friends at Delta. I was blown away by their kindness.
“In recognition of your decades of loyalty, your 2-million miler status and consistent achievement of Diamond status we are making an exception for you this year. You did not hit the level of diamond status (missed by less than a thousand miles). We are thankful for your loyalty and have awarded you diamond status for the coming year.”
They didn’t have to do this, nor did I expect it. I do appreciate the perks for flights and the the three choice perks for being diamond:
- $700 Amex credit to account
- 35,000 flight miles (enough for many domestic trips)
- 8 First class certificates for upgrades
As much as airlines aggravate me, this was such a positive action for them to take, I’m greatly appreciative of their consideration and action.

The bag hitters are my pet peeve.... And most are blissfully unaware. As a regular traveler for work, I’ve got a list a mile long…let’s start this off with…
The family of 20, like the entire family and extended family that boards with the one person in the wheelchair whom I happen to also see during ticketing moving around like a cheetah on the Serengeti right up to boarding…really?
…one more…guy with bag, extra bag, and backpack who walks down the aisle taking everyone out with his bags and then proceeds to bitch that he can’t fit all his crap in the overhead bin.
And go!
Yeah, F*ck those peeps. GrrrrrrThe bag hitters are my pet peeve.... And most are blissfully unaware.
Fly one airline and get status…but not a great hack for your world. 🙁I fly for my gov't job, thus I get the cheapest flights available (fun). Also, I don't get to pick what airline I fly on b/c the system finds the lowest rate regardless of airline. Therefore I have multiple airline FF accounts.
Do any of you world travelers have "hacks" on getting upgrades?

I use to do quarterly flights to Honolulu for work on Delta. Since I use to leave on the weekends, I booked the flights that I wanted and play the “doesn’t meet travel schedule” code on the travel system. Plus I also got the Delta Reserve American Express Card which helps boost status some.I fly for my gov't job, thus I get the cheapest flights available (fun). It’s hard to compile enough points for upgrades, preferred boarding etc when all your miles aren’t in one basket. I fly every week, hit 260k miles last year on American and still don’t get upgraded on every flight.
Is rather cut my nuts off than fly AmericanIt’s hard to compile enough points for upgrades, preferred boarding etc when all your miles aren’t in one basket. I fly every week, hit 260k miles last year on American and still don’t get upgraded on every flight.

My parents just got back from Cancun just before spring break hit, missed their connecting flight from Atlanta to Omaha due to a series of issues. Long story short they were on the ground in plenty of time to get their bags, go through customs, and get ACROSS the airport. Someone said fuck you, your staying the night for absolutely no reason.I'm convinced someone in Atlanta gets a big kick out of this everyday.
