Let’s talk airline travel: What pisses you off?

I'm guessing Delta is a lot like American where if you're flying into Atlanta, you better have a shit ton of miles in addition or you're not getting upgraded. When I don't get upgraded, it's pretty much always flying from Charlotte to Dallas on the way to somewhere else.

Just got back from DC and got upgraded on the way up and back. Doesn't mean much for a 55 minute flight, but I'll still take it.

Weird thing happened with Southwest I hadn’t seen before. I saw I had a quick layover in Atlanta so I went to upgrade so I could be sure my ass was in the front row on the flight before my connection. My upgrade to business select got me a $130 future flight credit. Nice little surprise

Isn’t SW open seating? Doesn’t BS just get you A1-15 boarding. If you don’t arrive when that group is boarding then BS doesn’t matter. If you arrive while the Cs are boarding then you get yourself a middle seat cupcake .

Nm - I missed the part about it being your first flight. Smart move !

SW is changing their boarding procedures so will be assigned seating in the future. I think they are also adding premium seating so as a companion pass member I think you will get those for free.

That being said if you were thinking about making a switch, now would be the time. Delta is matching A+ preferred and up free platinum status. Then if you spend $3,750 within the next 90 days you’ll keep that status until Jan of ‘27.

Plat comes with free comfort plus (more leg room, free booze and elevated snacks on longer flights). You’ll also get one choice benefit. I recommend choosing the four regional upgrades - these will get you first class on North American (a few South American) flights. You aren’t guaranteed to get first class but it greatly increases your odds.
Ya, the change in their boarding process may make this all a moot point. We have had some tight connections due to delays and then had to be the people saying "do you mind switching" because we didn't think someone would want to just have our 3 year old in the middle seat and be responsible for them. It was a pain on one instance and I felt bad.

The delta situation is interesting just to match what the FiL has. I have an AMEX that gets me into their lounges when I'm flying them so that's obviously a perk.

I think he was referencing upgrading on his flight before so he could be first off the plane to make his connection.

Yeah it’s a massive benefit when connecting to know you’ll get off almost as soon as you land. And despite every other part of air travel turning into an absolute nightmare the last few years, people actually still respect the first class/business overhead bin space which is really nice

I realized I didn’t answer the question about Admirals Clubs v Sky Clubs, Admiral clubs are just no nonsense if that makes sense. Nothing about it feels elevated but nothing about it feels in poor taste- it’s typically a smaller bar with a few self serve food options (that usually aren’t great - quality pales to a Centurion Lounge as an example) and some self serve non-alcoholic drink options

The one nice part is they usually are great with charging ports there and I never have difficulty finding a seat, so it’s essentially “reliable” if that makes sense. But probably a half tier down from Sky Club and full tier from Centurion Lounge.

Completely agree on the Admiral’s Club. You’re not going to be blown away, but some of the better locations are actually pretty relaxing to have some finger food and a drink or two between flights. It’s generally quiet, clean and away from the masses at the gates, which can be huge with some of the terrible seating arrangements they have at certain airports.

Spent an afternoon due to delays in the Admiral’s Club in Dallas a couple of weeks back and it was made the wait much more enjoyable.

Great! I’m not picky about food. Just somewhere relaxing I can grab a drink and use a nicer bathroom.

Do they have showers? Those have come in handy over the years

I’m adding a new one after my flight from LV to Denver:

  • Young Middle Eastern men who don’t shut the fuck up the entire flight.
They were loud enough that my shit couldn’t drown them out, but not loud enough that anyone else complained.

Give it an hour and you would welcome the death with how annoying they were.

Had a similar experience flying back from DC Sunday. Indian family and I think there only form of communication was yelling at each other. Just shut the hell up for some portion of the flight. Please.
