Yard Care

Anyone been successful in getting rid of voles?! These fuckers are in destructible. I've done poison, traps, some electrical things buried in the ground, made my dogs dig up the holes even.

Ok thanks @Toe. We have 3 small dogs too so I have some spots that have burned and aren’t coming back very good
You’re better off just getting some individual rolls of sod and throwing it down. I always had the same problem with my old dog before she died. This is a good time of year to throw some sod down too since the temp isn’t hot.

Nasty little fuckers. I just used poison in pvc with an elbow so the dogs couldn't get it. Still made me nervous.

I've had something digging some holes lately, not sure what. As of now it's been confined to an area I don't care too much about, so I'm not real worried yet.

Anyone have a good way of getting rid of rabbits? If I didn't live in the city, I would just shoot the bastards. They have killed off a lot of our bushes and now are killing different patches of grass. I know they make some different repellants, but didn't know if anyone had any success in using any of them. They repellants would have to be safe for our dog when he is outside, so stuff like ammonia doesn't seem to be an option.

Slingshot for attacks.

Theoretically your dog should also be contributing here.

KBG generally doesn't need to be overseeded because it spreads on its own. If you want to try, though, late Aug/early Sept would be the time to do it.
Yeah, also if you put down a preemergent you are basically wasting seed if you do it now.

Going to spray weeds this week

Then going to put down some fert... Probably Scotts Green Max or maybe some Milo... Usually like to do Milo in the heat of the summer.

The little bastards definitely don’t seem to be phased by our dog or the dogs on each side of us. One neighbor of one side has 3 and the neighbor on the other side has 1.

I think the bigger issue is that we have an empty lot behind us and the builder who owns it doesn’t maintain it very well. So, I’m guessing they are burrowed in that lot, have tall weeds/grass to hide in, and then just come into our yard when the dogs aren’t outside. They mainly only seem to go along our back fence line, as that is where all their shit is located and where they are killing my grass.

We have a black aluminum fence, so that doesn’t keep them out at all. I suppose I could add some type of chicken wire fencing at the base, but it would probably look like shit. That’s why I was curious if anyone had any success with any of the repellants.

*Edit to add the picture below. The circled area is the main area the rabbits are at and they have started eating and killing the grass back there.

I nearly decapitated a den of bunnies will I was mowing my front yard yesterday. Did a pass and turned around and saw a spot of brown grass that was pulsating. I turned my mower off and put my foot near it and a baby bunny jumped out and ran across the lawn into my bushes. A couple seconds later I saw more movement and eventually six bunnies jumped out and scattered around the lawn.

Luckily my grass is thick enough that I haven't noticed any damage from rabbits other than where they dug the burrow, and my two year old loves seeing them around so I'm not too worried about them. Honestly, I'm glad I didn't massacre a bunch of bunnies because that would've sucked.

If it's vacant & fences are up in such a way so the dogs can't get there, I'd go over/around and put down some kind of repellent/poison on that lot a couple/few feet beyond the fence.

Filled up my container of Grass Pad heavy duty weed killer on Saturday. Could already tell the difference with a few weeds by Sunday mid morning. A tad expensive, but worth it.

I must have had voles in the fall then. Lot of tunnels in my north side front yard, before my fence with a gate, so my dogs couldn't get to them. Super fuckin annoying. They went away once it got cold enough.

Generally yes, but there's a couple pre-emergents that are safe for seeding, like mesotrione. (Assuming it's safe for the type of grass you have anyway, it's not for bermuda or zoysia.)

You need to go out there and piss on that fence every night... Human urine will keep those bunnies away.
