Breaking Panthers fire Matt Rhule

Could you bring him in as an analyst to get to know the current staff and players? Be a good way to figure out what staff you want to keep, where the holes are in the roster, etc?
Why does it even have to be as an analyst? Hire him as the HC, but let Mickey coach the remainder of the year.

Just let him sit back and exam the current roster. He wouldn't have to serve any role as far as decision making, but he could get to know the current players, see what our needs are and begin to address them ASAP.

Is that possible? Is there any precedence?

Nebraska, when Riley was brought on, had two parallel coaching staffs while Barney Cotton had the interim title and prepped the team for their bowl game.

Ohio State did the same when Urban Meyer was hired and #2ndChoice still got the team prepped for a bowl game.

I can't think of one where a coach was brought on before that, but there likely aren't many available coaches to be brought on earlier either.

I know it has happened with bowl games. But has it ever happened half way through a season???

So why? Why start paying him 10 mil when Carolina can pick up the tab and you're getting the same thing?

You do it so you can sell the future. You can start selling Rhule to recruits, potential transfers AND assistant coaches. It's the same reason why we didn't wait to fire Frost. Give yourself the most amount of time to plan and prepare for next year.

Yeah if that's me there's zero chance I go back to work.

Do you mean ever go back to work?

I agree Jim, if it was you and I we wouldn't go back to work. That's because we're not driven like these guys, or have an ego to match. Hell, I'd hang it up if it was 1/3 of that.

Plus we're poors in comparison to Matt Rhule.

It's O.K. @Jim14510 is a CPA. They think differently 😆

You can do that anyway. Rhule is an analyst through the end of the year and then will take the title of HC.

And save about 2.5 mil in those 3 months.

Even 2 months you save 1.7

I'd do some private equity investing that I can be as involved as I want to be and fish most of the time, hookers and blow the rest.

Atta boy. I thought you might go volunteer at the soup kitchen instead - proud of your values.

What happens if Mickey does well the rest of the way? I think the next six-seven weeks won’t go well, but who knows?

I heard he had like 45 players available on scholarship when he arrived. He didn't just inherit Art Briles' Baylor roster when he came on board.
He definitely was short on numbers after inheriting that mess. If I remember right didn't the NCAA let Baylor Playres transfer out without having to sit out for a season? I can remember that Rhule had players who played both ways for him his first year there, and maybe some into his 2nd season there. Back then we did have the Transfer Portal to restock a school that had depleted scholarship numbers

You'd have to be at least a little bit insane to take a coaching job then. As much as people are hammering on Frost being lazy I'd bet he still worked as hard if not harder than the average person.

To succeed you have to work a lot harder and more hours than the average person.
I wonder if his contract could be back end loaded where we pay low until his Panthers Contract runs out and then amp it up once they are off the hook to make up the difference.
