Former Temple, Baylor, Carolina Panthers DC Phil Snow In Town As Nebraska Seeks “Fresh Eyes” On Defense

maybe he’ll tell Tony to stop rushing only 3-4 guys on 3rd down and running a zone behind it, then subsequently giving up a 1st down. Really only critique of Tony is his 3rd down D.

D could also improve on identifying corners but thats on the whole staff. Im sure there are other minor things but defense is the least of the concerns.

That low blitz rate people were amped about earlier this year was great. Atleast till the dline started playing better teams and generating less of a pass rush leaving all day to throw vs a zone d

I have a hard time believing in any staff changes Rhule makes at this point. Especially if he’s just brining in his past assistants/buddies

Dana, I'm sure, it hoping to stick with Nebraska in a full time spot. That has to be the carrot that pulled him away from TCU in the middle of the season.

Snow, happily retired and turning 69 later this season, has no such wishes. I think he was truly brought in as a short-time consultant to get fresh eyes on the defense. He's a guy who will have no problem speaking his mind because of his long history with Rhule and the fact that he is not angling for a future position. There's not reason for Tony White to feel defensive (no pun intended) or threatened by Snow. Hopefully it will be a beneficial arrangement for all.

Interestingly, Dean is saying that Dana may not have been at TCU now and may have just spent the first half or so of the season in his role there.

Your overall point this stands though.

Also worth noting that one person is scratching to get back into coaching and one person is a happily retired almost 70 year old
Are you sure Phil is retired, thought he was on staff for the Bears.

He is listed as a "Senior defensive analyst" for the Bears. But maybe he means retired from full-time coaching, which would be a much more rigorous work load. Whatever his job in Chicago, it apparently isn't so demanding that he can't take a few days off to spend some time in Lincoln.

His Wikipedia page says he's still with the Bears, but if you check the Bears' site, he is listed as an analyst on their 2023 staff, but isn't listed at all for their 2024 one.
