Breaking Panthers fire Matt Rhule

What if Matt is working on a deal to get him back to Baylor...Aranda's buy out is, let's guess $40 mil, that's chump change I guess for our deep pockets. Aranda is making $6 mil right? we bump it up to $8 mil with a $2 mil budget for assistants (would that be too low?) MOX-NIX right? Rhule wanted back into Baylor, Aranda can come hang with his OLDER and WISER group of friends, win some got dayum CFB games along the way and BOOM...problem solved...maybe.

EDIT: The reason to do this is so Rhule can start immediately at Baylor and we can bring Aranda in immediately. This would shake up LOTS of peoples lives but just spitballin' here.

What happens if Mickey does well the rest of the way? I think the next six-seven weeks won’t go well, but who knows?
That's the wild card. Only way you can bring in Rhule in as an analyst until the end of the season is you'd have to have a contract in place to make him head coach starting Dec 1/Jan 1. If you hire Mickey instead because he goes 7-2 then Rhule would get a buyout for at least a year.

Don't see Rhule taking the job as just analyst and losing out on other jobs. Or maybe he doesn't care since he's making 10 mil either way and he just takes his pick the next season.

Could you bring him in as an analyst to get to know the current staff and players? Be a good way to figure out what staff you want to keep, where the holes are in the roster, etc?
would be a dead man walking type scenario though? most of the staff would be walking on egg shells I'd think

While no one can rule out the slight possibility Mickey wins enough to be considered for the job, a lot of it can be swept away with a press conference and a players' meeting where Rhule is introduced.

Turd can make a statement about where he restates the qualities he was looking for in a coach, and from that, he compiled a list. While he appreciates Mickey taking the reigns and helping these young men through a turbulent season, and fully meant to leave the door open a crack for the job to be Joseph's if things worked out, he also needed to look towards what was best for the program. When one of his top guys became available halfway through the season, was personally vetted, and whose history and qualities checked all of his desired boxes, Turd knew that he had to make a decision then for the betterment of the program.

Bonus points if Rhule keeps Mickey on staff. I would be shocked if he didn't.

Reading between the lines: Turd either rolls the dice with a coach who had a good year but has no other qualitative FBS head coaching history, or goes with a coach who has proven twice now he knows how to ressurect an FBS program and make them legit.

If I truly had to guess, I think our OL sets up Mickey to have only a so-so season. Things are going to get a lot harder going forward. Not every team is struggling to the point that they're going to fire the offensive coordinator a week or so after we play them.

I think the worst part of it the deal is that it will create a lot of division if Mickey somehow wins 7 games for example and is passed over. If Mickey doesn’t have a real chance at the job Turd painted himself into a corner in this scenario.

It would be so Nebraska-like to have Mickey win out, or close to it. I tend to agree with another poster that the O-line limits things with the remainder of the season. D-line for that matter.

Many times players only see what's in front of them. Turd has a much bigger picture to consider, but I know you agree with those thoughts. One thought is that Turd probably figured Mickey's chances of closing out the season strong were about slim and none. Due to no fault of his own.

I honestly would be shocked if he gets the team to a winning record, but I’m telling you if Mickey gets us to a bowl the whole state and ex players will be behind him for the most part.

I don't disagree. At the same time, that thought makes me a little uncomfortable. It's the lack of HC experience that concerns me. He has the leadership ability, but does he have the organizational skills, and would he have a long-term strategy for success?

Time will tell. I want to see us win regardless. Turd can sort out what to do if he continues to win.

The last NFL coach we hired went well. Not entirely relevant…but at least he was coming off losing in the Super Bowl a couple years earlier. Thanks, I’ll hang up and listen.

I just find it really impetuous if Turd is taking a wait and see approach with Mickey.

If Turd thinks Mickey is/can be the guy, then why wait? It scares the shit of out of me If Turd is taking the approach that Mickey will only be the guy if he wins a certain amount of games against mediocre B1G Teams

It’s similar for Wisconsin in a way with Leonhard. If he does well down the stretch I’m guessing the job is his. If he shits himself it’s probably on to plan B which is probably Leipold. I hope Leonhard doesn’t shit himself.

I don't think he is waiting for Mickey, but outside of Bronco, Urban, Chris Petersen, and now Matt Rhule, I don't know who he could seriously talk to this early in the season. Maybe lots of coaches take discreet meetings, but idk. I always expected an announcement Saturday or Sunday after the Cockeye game
