He's talented, no doubt. I just really hope that our staff can get him on good routines. A misguided, talented player is no better than a guided, untalented player.
Anyone know the story on him ? Just because he comes from a high profile school means nothing considering the players in recent memory we've gotten from Ohio State and Alabama

He had a good first year at LSU, 35 catches, 368 yards. Then didn't play in 2021 and transferred to Georgia where he basically couldn't get on the field. He had 2 catches for 16 yards.
There are rumors that he's had off the field issues...not necessarily in the legal realm but maybe more mentally.
He's super talented but has not reached that potential. When coming out of high school one SEC Director of Player Personnel categorized him as their "highest graded player in the country regardless of position" This is according to his 247 high school recruiting profile. So a high ceiling, low floor type of kid.
He's already proven. He had 368 receiving yards his freshmen season at LSU. That's probably a Top 10 receiving record at Nebraska for a TE. Sat out in 2021 and is behind one of the most productive TEs in college football history in Bowers.

Gilbert didn't practice for most of the season while dealing with some type of behavioral health issue. Nebraska should absolutely sign him because he's basically a Darren Waller Type Talent. But Husker fans should temper their excitement.

He only played in the 3 games because he was having a lot of personal issues. Smart was quoted during the season that Gilbert's "Health was his first priority."
Georgia played in 11 blowouts during the season. Even if Gilbert was buried on the depth chart, he would've played a lot more after September.
