Here is his full write up from today... Credit to Mike Schaefer in case he's lurking on here and my name is the exact same over on 247 lol.
Now that we've reached the post-July 4 part of the recruiting calendar things theoretically should slow down as coaches stay on vacation, recruits begin team prep for the year ahead and the calendar dictates no one can see each other in person.
Still there's plenty of reason to stay locked in to what
Nebraska has going on which is why we're looking at the the eight remaining uncommitted official visitors and the Huskers chances with landing any of them.
Lets take a look:
Probably not
Kade Pietrzak — The big defensive recruit from
North Dakota famously doesn't talk about his recruitment. The lineman has made several official visits. There's a crystal ball logged for Oklahoma. There's a belief
Kansas State is in good position to challenge OU. Other than that there's a whole lot of shrugs and tepid reports about things.
Could see it but not likely
Alai Kalaniuvalu — Thought about putting Kalaniuvalu in his own category, but as you'll see there's already several of those and it defeats the purpose of tiering these recruits. Instead he's grouped here where Nebraska has a chance but it doesn't seem particularly likely.
Michigan and
USC are tough battles and never discount
Utah with how things have gone there.
Still Nebraska has connections to Bishop Gorman and offensive line coach
Donovan Raiola is recruiting hard here.
Michael Terry III — Pulling a five-star out of
Texas would be a hell of a coup for
Matt Rhule and staff. The Huskers have done great work recruiting Terry, a talented
San Antonio athlete, and naturally the staff was one of the firsts to recognize the talent and recruit him hard.
Still it appears Texas is going to be the team to win out for the Top 20 recruit, but Nebraska is certainly going to make their pitch throughout the offseason and try to revisit the conversation if things start fast during the season.
Better than you think
David Sanders Jr. — You may pick up your jaw if you dropped it. Nebraska isn't just a hat on the table for Sanders, the nation's No. 3 overall recruit, and the Huskers have recruited the lineman and his family very hard using a variety of pitches.
The Huskers are in the mix with
Georgia,
Ohio State and
Tennessee, and while conventional wisdom puts Nebraska a distant fourth that's not the case. And what's more is the Huskers are continuing to go to work. Don't write it off. A lot can still happen between now and an August 17 visit.
Be Patient (But also win)
Christian Jones — The top player in the state continues to say all the right things about Nebraska and make the visits and has connections throughout the program and school.
All while taking visits elsewhere. And that's not a problem. Jones is going to take this recruitment into the fall and that gives Nebraska time to cement a commitment. If the Huskers start fast and Jones sees wins then things will begin to fall into place and Nebraska will add another top in-state addition. Start slow and it might be time to worry.
Trending Up
Will Hawthorne — This
Cockeye linebacker is certainly taking his time as the Huskers have done a good job keeping him from making an expected commitment to
Cockeye State.
Hawthorne visited for the last available weekend in June and Nebraska has certainly pushed the idea of having him come aboard as a linebacker, where his raw athleticism could help make him another good player in space at the second level.
Aiden Manutai — A decision comes this week and Nebraska is right there in the mix and potentially even the favorite. The Huskers have made Manutai a big target all cycle with Rhule even stopping by during the January period when he was out recruiting on the Islands.
The new defensive backs coach,
John Butler, could be a bit of wrench thrown into the recruitment
Bryson Webber — Very similar to Manutai, it's a tough situation for Weber as Nebraska's staff change coming after his official visit gives pause for both sides. Do the Huskers still value the defensive back the same? Does he feel as comfortable?
Regardless it still seems like Nebraska is the definitive team to beat here until it is not.
