July Recruiting Thread… it’s almost gameday

He actually made it to campus for a bit at least. Don't think Henry Gray even moved in.
Gray actually enrolled early, but hurt his shoulder and sat out spring ball.

Another overrated Florida kid. Forty time was in the 4.75 range or worse.

Ended up at FIU.

Was he actually here for Spring? That was covid right? I already forget....did they have spring ball in 2020?

Matt Rhule and Nebraska staff putting finishing touches on terrific recruiting class

Another 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction logged for a top target.

STEVE WILTFONG16 minsVIP1

Matt Rhule and his staff are putting together one of their best, if not the best, recruiting class in their time pounding the trail at various stops. And these guys are closing in on another top target.

Aiea (Hawaii) Waipahu Top247 offensive lineman Preston Taumua will announce his college decision this weekend.

The intel continues to favor the Huskers.

With that, I’ve logged a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction for the Big Ten program, joining 247Sports national recruiting analyst Blair Angulo.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Taumua has also strongly considered Arizona, Auburn and Oregon, with his commitment locked in for 1 a.m. EST very early in the morning of July 16. It can be watched on the 247Sports YouTube channel.

247Sports ranks Taumua as the No. 1 prospect in Hawaii, No. 11 interior offensive lineman in the land and No. 207 prospect overall.

Nebraska currently has 247Sports No. 16 ranked recruiting class. Besides Taumua, they’d love to add fellow Top247 offensive lineman Grant Brix and cornerback Amare Sanders. They're trending on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Sanders.

Entering Taumua's announcement, Rhule and company hold 23 verbals and are capitalizing on a big June where 22 of 35 official visitors have jumped in the fold.

Taumua, Brix and Sanders would take that number up to 25 of 35.

What's your read on Dvoracek, Carm?

Once a Husker…

We need an old school Sarasota "Where Are They Now?" post about the Miami/Florida transfers from that class. I guess you could do most of the 2022 class since only Betts, Corcoran, Gifford, Nutsmacher, Lynum, Butler, and Gunnerson are left after Manning and Mauga graduated out of the 26 commits. It was the 17th ranked class at the time.

Was he actually here for Spring? That was covid right? I already forget....did they have spring ball in 2020?
We had two practices, I believe (three at most), before things were shut down. IIRC.

What's your read on Dvoracek, Carm?
I would certainly say the obvious - he has had the least recruiting success of any of the ACs. I think he has no commits. Cooper is the lead on McGahee.

It's harder to tell if this means he is bad at recruiting for sure because we don't know how they allocated slots to LBs in this class and how much they are planning on growing safeties into LBs. We didn't actually have any highly ranked LBs in for OVs. We had some 4 stars do UVs earlier in ther spring, but they opted for top schools - Williams and Mothudi both committed to Oregon, Newby committed to USC. Tyanthony Smith committed to A&M, Okoronkwo committed to Bama. Those were good to get in for UVs, aznd getting them to agree to an OV was probably a tough pull.

But I would say he looks like our biggest recruiting question mark going forward.

Jacob Smith announcing tomorrow

Come Thursday at noon he will end his recruitment by announcing his college choice live on the 247Sports YouTube channel, and Michigan and Nebraska are the main contenders. His top six is rounded out by Notre Dame, Kentucky, Alabama and Georgia, and he is excited to make his commitment public.

It appears he is going to Michigan

The announcement is on the 247 Michigan front page, nothing on the Nebraska site, it was accompanied by Michigan 247 CB.
Could this be about Smith? 🤷‍♂️

What's your read on Dvoracek, Carm?
I am also not super disappointed we didn't get Smith. I am not arguing he isn't a good player, it is more that I think he is a high floor low ceiling guy. He will be 19 by HS graduation time and he is exactly the same height and weight today he was two years ago. I think he is one of those guys who is a four star because he matured early.

I slid into Sarasota's Twitter feed trying to get him to come over. He is quite the personality and not afraid to stir up the shit. He use to join me in badgering $Dean for his bullshit or fighting with the BoLievers back in the day. I loved his "Where are they now" posts.

Henry Gray enrolls at Nebraska Cornhuskers

Yeah, it was covid.

He hurt his shoulder in the weight room which was pretty common under Duval.

By the time spring rolled around he was pretty much out the door. At that point, I think everybody knew he wasn't a Power 5 player.
