Injury Rumor

Yes sir. Number of WRs is left off, but the total grouping equals 5. So in 12, it's 2 WRs. 20 is 2 backs, 3 WR.

12 is Nebraska's base package which they call Hippo.
Have always wondered.....where did the names come from? Who the hell thought of Hippo? And do others use that but different names?

12 would likely put our best players on the field this year in Allen, Vokalek, Toure, Stepp/Ervin, and Manning.

Since I'm retarded, give me an example of 20 personnel....?
2 back 0 TE

Cockeye is a 21 personnel
2 back 1 TE

10 personnel
1 back 0 TE

So when we are on defense you will sometimes see boards being held up with 2 numbers. That is often to let the defense know what kind of personnel they are in. Or at least that is what we did.

Our talent makes it tricky to match personnel because we have some tweeners (Allen/Nixon/etc...).

oooohhhhhhhh light bulb click. The goal of Frost's spread is to put defenses in conflict with 5 weapons on the field at all times that the defense can't defend......click

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you! So 12 is 1 back, 2 tight end then. Look at my ass learning football on a Wednesday!

You see the evolution of offenses though? 21 personnel now is so much different than what it use to be. 21 use to be I-back, fullback, tight end. Now, it’s two running backs and a tight end or maybe even an Hback. Defenses use to be able to treat 12 and 21 the exact same. That wouldn’t be the best idea now…

The goal is to spread a defense horizontally and vertically. Then pair that with a power run while putting a defender in a spot where he is always wrong.

In order to do that you need to be able to have a weapon at every spot.

What has been missing the last few years is a couple of things...
  • Blocking on the perimeter
  • Ability to win 1-1 vertically
    • Toure did this against he best CB in the B1G
  • Ability to have a consistent RB run game

You saw flashes of it in 18, but you didn't have the talent at your Z in 18 that you will have in 21 and you are more talented at TE. You also will have similar talent on the OL and I will reserve judgement on RB. RB in 18 you had Oz rush for 7 yds a carry and Mo was your second choice.

I mean how do you defend Allen? You try and cover him with a LB and he toasts him in the pass game, but you use a DB and we can run the ball or win on swing passes.

There is a reason Jojo is so valuable to our defense. Fuck we put him on Rondale last year and he shut him down. That from a 230lbs LB is huge.

So what would you say is the difference between Frost's and other spread offenses?

I definitely see the evolution. It's just the terminology and function I'm somewhat stupid with. Sometimes I understand where and why and how things are done, sometimes I'm clueless.
