Beyond Sims’ limitations as a passer, the lack of a true deep threat at WR is what’s really killing this offense IMO. Clearly short/intermediate passing is not Sims’ strength already, but the secondary doesn’t have to respect the deep ball at all. Secondaries will continue to play tight coverage and jump routes.

I think some freshman will start playing more. Lloyd got 4 snaps. Bonner only 3. No targets for Fidone. No snaps for Coleman. I'd bet all those things will change as the season goes along.

I don't know what the answer is at WR, but even if they aren't completely ready we're going to have to roll the dice with the young guys. the fact that they brought Tommi hill in to try the deep shot doesn't bode well for what they think of Coleman at the moment since that's exactly the kind of play he should be able to handle

Coleman get in there and go deep. Should be that easy.

Sims wouldn't be able to connect with them tbh, at least not from we saw last night. Even on passes where we had a step the accuracy wasn't there. Missing wide open receivers, staring down his targets, etc.

I actually kinda of hate the RB room. Ervin is okay, but had such a limited resume, Rhamir is just generic RB, Grant can't be trusted. And everyone else can't beat out those guys

We need another RB recruit
We need a lead back that Ervin can play off of.

It sure felt like Nebraska didn't have the ball much last night but wasn't much different than last year.

2023 Nebraska 56 offensive plays Minn 69
2022 Nebraska 61 Minn 66

maybe I'm forgetting, but did we even try any bootlegs with Sims? I was sure that's what we'd see on that goal line INT. not sure why you don't roll him out to the wide side of the field with a run/pass option and a chance to throw it away. instead we flood the short side of the field have have 2 receivers in a really tight space (along with 4 defenders)

I don't remember any.

If we're being honest with ourselves, it's going take 3 years for the offense to be any semblance of what Rhule wants that looks competent.

Frost left the offensive personnel in horrible shape : Horrible coaching, no real development, quick fixes from the transfer portal, big big misses in recruiting, and no depth anywhere. It's really a testament and how terrible of a head coach Frost was here.

Rhule has his work cut out from him, but confident he will build this the right way .. Work on building depth, coaching and development, and most importantly recruiting but it's not an overnight fix ..

that 1st down we got from Haarberg was exactly the kind of play Fidone (or even Bonner) should be ideal for
On that one I'd say Bonner. I don't really mind Haarberg on that either. Mofo can run.

I want to see some curls, delayed crosses, up the seam plays for Fidone. He should have at least 4 or 5 plays designed for him in a game.

I'm still bamboozled by how in the fuck we didn't target Fidone. one. single. time.
It's amazing that he of all people was on a milk carton. Early on he looked confused coming out of the huddle and he had a procedural penalty too. Maybe he's struggling to grasp the offense?

It was Sims' first game in a new offense on a new team in a new conference at their home territory at night.

If by game 4 it's the same issues, then this is it.
Wasn’t he a turnover machine at Georgia Tech? Why would it change?

The Jamal Lord comparisons are on point, both for Sims' athletic ability and he has a WR group as bad as what Jamal had.

Jamal had a decent TE in Matt Herian and a bunch of scrubs that could block but not catch anything. Just like Jamal we'll hopefully hit some playaction bombs but this offense cannot work its way down the field throwing the ball.

Because he had gotten better over the 3 years.
Was there a noticeable difference over the years? I never watched him. I just heard people selling is freak skills. Give me a qb who makes the right decisions with a little lesser talent than an athlete who isn’t a great passer any day.
