Dad Thread

My 2 year old was watching cartoons this morning and my wife was upstairs with the baby. I had to take a shit so I told him I’d be right back. About three minutes later I hear a scraping noise and look out the doorway to see my son dragging his plastic chair and table across the floor. He calmly brings them into the bathroom, sets them up, and sits down in the chair. I asked him what he was doing and he says “watching you poop!”

Tonight me and a buddy dragged a homemade hand “Zamboni” on our lake for 2.5 hours to smooth out the ice for our families to skate this weekend

Went out when the kids went down and worked until 11:15. Beyond excited, and love doing this work to make family memories

I’m giddy

Mine are grown, and the best advice I can give anyone is enjoy them through all their phases…if you can.

It seems like yesterday I was up in the middle of the night changing a diaper or feeding them, now they’re grown men and it doesn’t seem possible.

Enjoy as best you can and don’t try to rush them through it.

My oldest (5) is getting ready for his first wrestling meet this weekend. He's played football and baseball, but this is the first time he's done anything individually competitive like this. I'm not sure who's got a more intense combo of nervousness and excitement, me or him.

Thread should probably pinned.

Have 2 under 2 in a small house. Sleeping is a nightmare right now. How did any of you do it? Their rooms are close to each other and if one wakes up the other is up. Suggestions besides get a better job and get a bigger house?
Lay down when they do. Find as much sleep as you can. Oh and get a better job and buy a bigger house. 😆

Prob just have to ride it out. I'm at 4 under 5.. my oldest woke up basically every night just to make me walk her back to bed for like 2 years. She stopped when we moved #3 in with her.

4 under 5!?!? Good lord man, pulling out of your driveway must be a challenge.

Just messing. My middle one does the same thing lately. Usually it's ok because I'm up at odd hours anyway, but it definitely tests me when I'm getting a good sleep in and she chooses to do it.

I guess she turned 5 so I gotta rephrase..

I just always tell people the cup was already full so it doesn't really feel different with more.

Little update: went 1-2, but more importantly didn't quit or let his nerves get the better of him. Worked his ass off the whole time.

Fun fact - my 3 year old was apparently born to skate

I should not have read through this thread…….After multiple miscarriages, then onto IVF we finally have a boy on the way in June. At 40 you would think I would be a little more ready but after reading a lot of the posts here….. maybe not….. lol now I’m a little nervous!! Especially with the high risk madness do to lack of sleep early on. That’s really the thing that scares me the most.

Meh. It’s not so bad. You’ll be fine. I’ve got number 5 coming in July. Turn 41 in July. Let the madness continue.

Looking back. Our first 3 were pretty good sleepers. 4th was a real asshole. All worth it. Glad you got one coming. Congrats.

People like to bitch about the bad but the good outweighs the bad by so much. The no sleep baby phase is such a short time frame. Even then something as simple as seeing them smile for the first time is one of the best things you'll ever experience.

My 4 year old just started. He seems to enjoy it. My 6 year old hell cat daughter tagged along to practice tonight and started. Little shit did pretty good.
My 3 year old daughter is going to be the same way. She seemed to be getting into it as much as brother was. She's already asked to do it next year. And she's definitely the aggressive one. I'm looking forward to it.

A fuckin men. We talk about the bad mostly as a joke. But every day is a wonderful day when your kids are there to tell you good morning and good night. It's amazing how much a hug from a 35 lb toddler can change the course of your entire day.

Told my 5 yr old 3 different times today I'd help her with a puzzle when I could after work. Screwed up my back somehow and couldn't sit on the floor with her. Told her I was sorry because I know I told her I'd help with that puzzle. "Its okay, you didn't know you'd hurt your back." 🥲
They’re the best. Last weekend I slept wrong and had a horrible knot in my back. Late in the day my 4 year old wanted to play cars and I was walking with the car in the air because I told him it hurt too much to bend down. He said “maybe we can watch a paw patrol and I can rub your back.”

Of course he has neither the understanding or the strength required to actually massage a muscle, but he did sit right next to me and very gently rub my back the way that I rub his when he lays down to go to bed.
