he said he was going to Texas ten days agoI think Mongo was probably referring to Nigel Smith.

Andrew Sprauge was never going to commit to Nebraska.
If Nebraska gets Raiola they still have a shit ton of work to do to make Nebraska a desirable place to commit to.
There are plenty of successful programs with talented qbs. Small handful might commit because of Raiola. Others will still want a successful programa
I know I’m not telling my son to commit to Nebraska because of Raiola
Overall, Cybr’s biggest fault having the assumption that many, if any, of the croots visiting this weekend would actually commit.
This early spring is the time when recruits (especially the highly regarded ones) take a lot of visits to a lot of different schools. No one, outside of maybe those most butt-chugging the Big Red kool-aid, thought we would get more than maybe one verbal commit this weekend.
This weekend is all about planting seeds. And then, as the wise Seth Rogen said in The 40-Year-Old Virgin: “You wait for the seed to become a plan, and then you fuck the plant.”
Yeah, I don't think his issue was expecting a bunch of commits and being disappointed that we haven't gotten any yet. He made his post at 8 a.m. Friday, before the large majority had even gotten to campus yet.Yes, this is about getting as many of these guys as we can to use one of their OVs on us. That what junior days are for. It did not sound like he expected commits right away, though.
I agree with all of this; I just would modify the second statement to say "a desirable place for high four stars and five stars to commit to"Andrew Sprauge was never going to commit to Nebraska.

in this day and age, finishing 2nd is almost as important as actually getting the recruit's signature. maybe we only get 5 of these kids from the weekend, who gaf? getting yourself in the good graces of these top recruits from big time programs has literally no negatives. Not to mention planting the seeds for future transfers if we don’t get them the first time.
That’s fair. Difference between a mid-low 4 and 3 star isn’t much tbh. Just a matter of how a recruiting service can profit off themI agree with all of this; I just would modify the second statement to say "a desirable place for high four stars and five stars to commit to"

We are talking about Mongo...he said he was going to Texas ten days ago
He’s already said he’s taking an offical to uga in June.is dylan n yet
I hadn't thought about this until you wrote this but - If Dylan rejects us now, we are likely worse off than we would have been if he had never been interested again after last April. It would be a very public rejection of the shiny new regime at his dad's alma mater. It would be used in negative recruiting: "You're interested in Nebraska and Matt Rhule? Are you crazy? Dominic Raiola, retired number and Rimington Trophy winner at Nebraska, his son Dylan grew up a Nebraska fan, was really courted by the program, spent a lot of time evaluating it, and turned them down. Why would YOU want to go there?"Unfortunately this is probably true. If the legacy GBR kid dumps NU then all those peers are gonna go "why would I commit to a 4-8 program?"

True, I really wasn't positing that it was a make or break.Obviously getting Dylan would be huge but in the grand scheme it's really not make or break unless yore only giving Rhule 3 years jmho
I'm not sure about that.I hadn't thought about this until you wrote this but - If Dylan rejects us now, we are likely worse off than we would have been if he had never been interested again after last April. you make very, very good points. Especially about how they have likely exhaustively thought through all the possible upsides and downsidesI'm not sure about that.
For one, he's not going to reject us now, he'll reject us in June. But in the meantime you maybe got 50 kids out here on UVs that maybe wouldn't have given a 4-8 Nebraska the time of day. Yes, maybe none of them pick Nebraska this DEC.
BUT... 50% of those kids won't like their chosen school after the first year. And let's say Rhule gets us to 7-5 or 8-4 this season. Now you got some 4*s hitting the transfer portal in 2024, guess who they call first?
I guarantee you a bunch of these 4*s will actually have NU as their #1 school (in their heart) after these UVs this spring. Even if zero of them pick NU now bc of the stigma of the DR snub/4-8... they may come back to you via the portal.
I'm sure Rhule has game theoried all the possible scenarios this could go... there's honestly not too many negative repercussions for any of this. NU's biggest obstacle in recruiting is actually GETTING kids to take a visit here. The Dylan sweepstakes has actually helped a great deal with this, even if we end up not getting him.
Remember, we weren't going to have much juice in this spring period anyway with Rhule having to sell a 4-8 program. Rhule's big opportunity comes this fall as he can build relationships w kids and hopefully get them to games and hopefully go 7-5 minimum. The baseline for recruiting returns in March after a 4-8 season was very low for Rhule anyway. All this activity we're getting now is a bonus.
I thought it was his mom.Wait, she's in HS?
