Big recruiting weekend thread

I don't usually read his posts on Rivals - I intentionally pass over posts with pictures of Frost in the profile most of the time (for obvious reasons) - but I read his posts in that thread and he does have a point (although he over plays it). If Raiola doesn't come here, 6-8 of these guys are probably completely out of the picture. Not all of them, though. This staff recruits very well and will get good players without Raiola. There just won't be as many right now and they won't come as fast. I highly doubt we will have a handful of 5 stars this fall even if Raiola comes.

He neglects to point out there are other benefits to this weekend, which is one of the reasons it has been 'seeded' with booster money - getting publicity, showing excited recruit interviews on YouTube, etc. It's all about creating some excitement around the brand and publicizing the fact that things have changed.

BTW most big schools have friends of the program who fund recruits' way for unofficials.
Not to mention planting the seeds for future transfers if we don’t get them the first time.

Cyber monkey ain’t wrong tho
He’s also not right. It’s unknowable at this point because he’s speculating on the future. Just becasue he’s expecting or assuming the worst case scenario doesn’t make him right. And even if we don’t land any five stars, that doesn’t make the weekend a waste of time.

Putting aside Raiola, the two most important guys here this weekend, in my view, are Baker and Sprague. If we only got two guys out of the remaining 25 and they were these two guys - the #1 and #9 OT in the country - this weekend would be a homerun. Man, having two great tackles would set us up for the future. It's so hard to get really good tackles.

Baker is a guy we won't get without Dylan.

@CybrrMonky71 is complaining about bringing these big time recruits and simultaneously complaining about hidden gem classes. I’m confused about what he wants Nebraska to do? Not recruit big time recruits but also not recruit projects?
As someone who specializes in bitching about everything I can see why that doesn't make any sense

Overall, Cybr’s biggest fault having the assumption that many, if any, of the croots visiting this weekend would actually commit.

This early spring is the time when recruits (especially the highly regarded ones) take a lot of visits to a lot of different schools. No one, outside of maybe those most butt-chugging the Big Red kool-aid, thought we would get more than maybe one verbal commit this weekend.

This weekend is all about planting seeds. And then, as the wise Seth Rogen said in The 40-Year-Old Virgin: “You wait for the seed to become a plan, and then you fuck the plant.”

I just noticed that Nigel Wilson is in Austin, and Andrew Sprague appears to be visiting Notre Dame. It would definitely be a big deal if Sprague didn't come to Nebraska this weekend if you asked me.

Visits are wrapping up. I just caught up with Ian Flynt. Several other recruits said they will contact me when they are off campus.

Yes, this is about getting as many of these guys as we can to use one of their OVs on us. That what junior days are for. It did not sound like he expected commits right away, though.

who is Nigel Wilson??

^sad if Sprague doesn't make it. Could use all the bick boys for the OL
It isn't clear whether Sprague was here yesterday and went to Notre Dame today or went to Notre Dame yesterday. I am betting on yesterday at ND because he tweeted out a Tom Loy 247 article yesterday about the big weekend at Notre Dame which had Loy writing this

Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst four-star offensive tackle Andrew Sprague is a player I expect Notre Dame to make a move for this weekend during his visit. The 6-6, 290-pounder from the class of 2024, who is already being compared to former Notre Dame great Mike McGlinchey, has a ton of interest in the Fighting Irish. Joe Rudolph is going to push hard here and try to land the No. 133 overall player in America.

Unfortunately this is probably true. If the legacy GBR kid dumps NU then all those peers are gonna go "why would I commit to a 4-8 program?"

This is also true. If you're Rhule, you have to take the big swing at it. There's really no downside. It'll be a buzz kill for the fans but they'll get over it.

We'll still get good kids. Remember there is a domino effect that happens once the 5*s start committing. It happens around June. People start committing and then schools position slots start filling up. A select few can wait until December and they know they'll have a spot anywhere. But these 50 or so kids we'll have over the next weeks/months will not be that lucky. They will have to pick their spots in June before schools pull their offers. So, 20 kids can't base their decision on what one kid does. Vast majority won't have the blank ticket that Dylan has.

Overall this is all very positive for DONU even if Raiola and his 4 friends don't commit. You had to take a shot.
