Auto (lemon) purchase advice

VIN: WDDNG8GB4BA400153 is the one on our insurance card.

The previous one was on the purchase contract, so he didn’t even put the correct VIN number on it.

Oh boy... You probably have zero legal ground to stand on, unless they didn't disclose it was a salvage title.

Did you know it has a branded/salvage title?
Was it a consignment at Concierge? Meaning a private party sold the vehicle through Concierge?

Your engine troubles are more than likely due to the front end collision it was in and/or whatever caused the insurance company to declare it a total loss. This 2/2/22 total loss record doesn't give any details.

09/28/2021 - 52,281 miles
Damage Report
  • Accident reported
    • Involving front or side impact with another motor vehicle
    • Damage to front
    • Damage to left front
    • Damage to right front
    • Damage to undercarriage
    • Disabling damage reported
    • Vehicle towed

02/02/2022
Damage Report
  • TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE

02/02/2022
  • SALVAGE TITLE/CERTIFICATE ISSUED

It's impossible to track after this total loss because it went from the owner in Wichita, KS to the insurance company in Missouri where they sold it to someone in Nebraska. After it made it's way to Nebraska, someone owned it from 6/13/2022 at 52,284 miles and drove it until 11/2/24 and 68,542 miles then it was offered for sale at Concierge without changing owners.

That’s so fucking shady

I'd go to the dealership and have a man to man discussion, face to face, with the highest person possible. First thing to bring up is the insurance fraud offer he made you & be blunt you're aware it's fraud and you're not interested in that. Hopefully it's in writing (text, email, v/m transcript) or even a v/m.

My guess is, he/she will fold at that moment & reverse the transaction.

Calls, texts, emails are one thing but when a business is faced with an in-person discussion, it can be a game changer.

I'll also suggest calling Mike McKnight at WOWT to see if this is something he'd be interested in. I knew Mike many years ago, and he rarely turned down an opportunity to bring attention to poor business practices. Especially ones with fraudulent offers, assuming you have proof.

The mechanic I took it to stated the engine block looked as if it overheated multiple times. He said the block was most likely warped. I’m not convinced the issues are from the wreck.

I know you said you weren’t there at purchase but need to look at paperwork and see if it was disclosed as salvage/branded. Your insurance will normally mention that as well when puting insurance on. If it wasn’t disclosed you will have a much easier plan of action in not having to keep the vehicle

Front end damage, enough to cause a total loss wouldn't be the direct result to the overheating, but bad repairs or missed repairs to the radiator, water pump, pulley system, hoses, thermostat, etc could have led to the over heating problems after the repairs.

Someone repairing a $15k salvage title vehicle isn't going to put much effort into it.

Sounded like the insurance fraud was only discussed in a phone call to the European auto mechanic?
If Harvey and Mike from "Suits" have taught me anything, you need to act/bluff like you want to take him up on this deal, get it in writing, then use it to blackmail/extort him with it.

Suits would have been the most boring show in the world if they didn't all run around creating problems for themselves to fix later

Shit, your telling me the most prestigious law firm in NYC wouldn't hire a lil dipshit who walks in off the street who can remember things?
Even if we accept that, they could have gotten him to be a real lawyer and just lied about the Harvard piece of it in like 18 months.

But it was just more fun to have him pretend to be one

Unauthorized practice of law would pretty much make it impossible to ever actually get barred. The do a full colonoscopy in New York State to get admitted there.

I'm pretty sure you can sit for the bar with some number of law school credits and some amount of experience in NY. Both of which he could have gotten legitimately has they not had a structured settlement and needed cash now or whatever
