Several stories I would call 'supernatural' more than 'paranormal'. Not hauntings, just eerie.
7 or 8 years old, friend and I rode our bikes out to the river to fish. That was back in the early 1970's when you could do those sorts of things. Anyway, the river bed was mostly sand so you had to walk a ways to get to the river. My friend caught a Gar, neither of knew what it was. My friend was going to pull the hook out of it's mouth and a grandma looking woman - hair in a bun, dress - says "No boys! Don't stick your hand in there!"
We literally thought nothing of it and just looked at each other. My friend pulled out his knife to cut the line and I looked around - there was nobody else around and to reach the shore the old woman would have to have walked approximately 30 yards across the sandy river bed. I have never seen a picture of a long dead relative or anything that resembled her, so maybe it was one of his grandparents or something? He moved shortly after that, have not seen him since.
I was 12 when my brother was killed in a car wreck. He was my hero - a really good big brother aged 18. Good athlete. Anyway...I guess I couldn't comprehend what was going and was scared shitless. I would play an old beat up AM radio at night for music and would awaken to news stories about cattle mutilations in rural Nebraska. I didn't sleep much. I would wander downstairs and try sleeping on the couch. I don't have a good memory of how many days passed, thinking a week but not certain. I remember one night there was a brilliant light shining from the doorway and I couldn't make out his face, but it was my brother. "I'm alright. Everything is OK." Is all he said. I was able to sleep after that.
I was just out of high school a couple of years when my dad to have surgery for prostate cancer. I drove him and my mom to the hospital and I was pretty concerned. I didn't know anything about prostate cancer. I went into the chapel and prayed that if the outcome was bad, that I would have the strength to help mom, etc. I was pretty upset and heard a voice say "he will be alright". Not a booming like voice, more inside my head. My dad was OK.
Story about my recovery from alcoholism. I had been drunk for several days, had a gun in my hand. I felt hopeless, no idea what was going to happen to me, etc. I raised the gun to my head and said a prayer, "Help me God." At that moment, I had a feeling of peace come over me, my thoughts cleared and I knew exactly who to call. My compulsion to drink was gone. God willing, I will celebrate 35 years sober in a few months. Completely different life.
In Las Vegas with my wife, she had a work conference down there so I took some time off and tagged along. This was about 15 years ago. I really wanted to go to an AA meeting in Vegas just to see what it was like. The meeting was at the Riviera, which I don't think is there anymore. Anyway, I was running late so I jump on the tram praying that not only would I be on time, but that I could even find it. I walked to the back of the Riviera and there were 20-25 people at desks, information. I look at them, and one lady was the only person standing, she made eye contact with me and gave me a big smile so I walk over to her. I tell her she will probably think I'm crazy but I am looking for the AA meeting. "I'm a friend of Bill's. I know exactly where it's at."
So I go to the hotel in back, find the right building and ride the elevator up to the 4th floor, I believe it was. I get out of the elevator and all the rooms look the same. A man walks around the corner, looks at me and continues to the bathroom to my right a few doors. I am still wandering around when he comes back out and he asks if he can help me. I tell him again I'm looking for the AA meeting. He said, "I'm chairing the meeting. Follow me."
Maybe dumb luck, coincidence...not hauntings, but each of these things happened to me and makes me believe there is more going on than we know. I am a firm believer in God, this stuff confirms it for me.
