Art Bell’s vault. West of the Rockies you’re on the air.

Back in high school, there was an old bridge out in the country called 3rd bridge. It was notoriously haunted and had native American background. Years later I did some research and the history there is pretty fucked up but anyways, it was typical to go there on a Friday night and see 20-30 teenagers hanging out. We went on Friday the 13th one year and tons of people were there. We hang out for an hour or two, it's probably 1 am at this point and before we know it we're the last ones out there.

One of the things we had heard about this place was that if you have some dust on your car when you leave you'll see footprints so we threw a bunch of dirt on the car when we got there and kinda forgot about it. We sit there silent for about 30 min waiting and nothing happens, then all of a sudden the wind completely stops, a rock goes skipping past us and we hear what sounds like a horse walking at the other end of the bridge(keep in mind this is like a 200 ft bridge).

We all freak out and sprint for the car. It took us all a while to fall asleep that night but that's not even where it gets weird. The following day my friend calls me(the one who drove us) and said we need to get over there right away. His window was shattered and it appeared that it was broken from the inside out. You could almost see where someone was pushing with their feet from the inside trying to bust it out. On top of that, there were hand prints all over the car. I'll text my friend to see if he still has the pic but this was 12 years ago.

I have more stories from the Stanley Hotel I might have to get into.

As a high school senior, a group of parents asked me to help with coaching a 5 and 6th grade team. Pretty easily usually, show up after practice for while in the evenings. Games were on Saturday mornings close to home. This one particular night I think there was an early out in school that day, so I was given a key to come back in the evening to open up the gym for the kids for practice that night.

For some background, I think it was in the 70s or 80s there was a girl that was killed in the parking lot in the winter after a basketball game. For context, apparently this girl loved basketball and was a good athlete, this would of been a boys game she was attending I think. The rumor was that the boys team had a big upset at home, she ran outside and was excited about the win, and a car backed out, hit her, she slipped on some ice, hit her head and tragically died. I don't know if that's how it went down, but I do know for sure she died. There were older teachers in school that told us about it and knew the girl. As you grow up, you would hear stories about people coming at night after hours and hearing things, seeing things, and basically it'd freak them the f*** out and they'd leave.

Back to my experience, so I unlock the door and there's a long entrance hallway that leads to the gym, the lights were off. As I'm walking down the hallway I flip one set of lights on, as anyone would, and as I'm walking down to the gym I heard a ball bouncing. Didn't really think much of it, really just thought some kid got there before me and got in somehow. I thought I'd mess with them a bit and scare them, so I walked up to the gym door quietly and ripped open the door to scare whoever it was. Open the door, the lights were OFF in the gym, and the ball slowly stopped bouncing (like someone had dropped it) and was slowly rolling to the side. At that point I just thought some kid was messing with me. So I ran to the locker room to catch them, nobody was in there. Ran to a stage that was next to the gym thinking they hid there, nobody there. Then ran to the hallway to see if they ran away that way, nobody there. At that point....little freaked out haha. With 100 percent certainty, there was nobody in the school but me. About ten minutes later the first kid showed up for practice. I wasn't the first person to have experience something with a basketball bouncing. Pretty wild experience.

Few things, I’ll keep these short.

1) the day my dad died, my best friend came over and I told him the news. Just as I was telling him a light in the dining room about 20 feet away turned on by itself.

For context: moved into the current house in 2012. Down payment came in large part from money my dad left me when he died. Kinda say he helped us buy the house.

2) TV upstairs used to turn on regularly by itself. Wife worked night shift at the hospital back in the day, and she would say it turned on by itself a lot during the day - I didn’t believe her, until it happened to me a couple times. It has not done this in years now.

3) the first Christmas after my daughter was born, my entire immediately family (mom and both siblings) were together in the house for the first time since my daughter was born. My daughter had a little elephant walker type thing that would say “woo-hoo!” But only when you moved it. My mom was singing with my daughter, and said “woo-hoo” after she got done. The walker immediately responded from five feet away with a “woo-hoo!” Despite not being touched. We tried to get it to do it again by making noises and couldn’t.

4) one night I was rocking my daughter to sleep in her room. The only light on was a lamp that was in front of me. I pop my head up for a second and a shadow quickly moves across the wall. Could not have been from me or anything else in the room as there was no light behind me.

I believe all of these things were my late father, who passed when I was only 14. I think he was checking in on us. I believe he has since moved on because nothing has happened in probably five years.

I've got two decent ones. The Weeping Water one is extremely long, but 100% true - I can't believe how stupid I was, but I sincerely thought I was going to die.

Back when I was a freshman in college I had a buddy who was really in to "ghost hunting." Mostly, all that meant was him and his girlfriend would drive around to notoriously haunted places and take pictures on a digital camera - if there were orbs in the picture, those were the "haunting spirits." This buddy had had an aunt who owned a house in Weeping Water, but had moved out because she claimed it was haunted - one room always remained 60 degrees, no matter the temperature outside, their kid all of a sudden had a new imaginary friend when they moved in, books flying of shelves, etc. So, on October 30th, my buddy and I decided that we would drive down there and check the place out. My buddy also said that Weeping Water also had an old haunted bridge just outside of town. As he told the story, a hundred years back or so, some woman was accused of being a witch and they hang her from the bridge. Thus, it was named Witch's Bridge (I have since tried looking this up for more information and can't find anything). Again, as my buddy told it, rumor had it that at the twilight morning hours on Halloween you could see the witch swinging from the bridge.

So we drove down to Weeping Water and got to my buddy's aunt's house around 12:00 pm. We couldn't get in to the house, so we just walked around the outside, snapping pics on our digital camera's - absolutely nothing. After about 10 or 15 minutes we decided to leave and check out Witch's Bridge. This was before smart phones, so we didn't know exactly where we were going. After driving around for half an hour or so, we decided to stop and ask for directions. Only place open was a bar off Main St. I was driving, so my buddy hoped out and talked with some folks outside the bar. Apparently they knew exactly what we were talking about and gave us directions.

It was about 3 or 4 miles out of town on a dirt road when a car, out of nowhere, comes flying up behind us and is riding my bumper. My buddy and I were pretty weirded out - it was after midnight in the middle of nowhere. Ultimately, we decided that maybe they were waning to do the same thing as us and were wanting to check out the bridge. After about half a mile of them ridding my ass, we came to our last turn before the bridge. I wanted to test and see if the were following us or heading to the bridge, so I skipped the turn and just kept going straight. To our relief, the car behind us turned. I went down the road about a quarter mile, turned around and started back towards the bridge. Shortly after I made the turned that I had intentionally missed, we saw the car that was following, heading back our way. Didn't think much of it. Just waved as they went by.

When we got to the bridge, there wasn't much to it. We got out and walked around, but there wasn't much to see. It was just an old wooden bridge, wide enough for one car to cross at a time (foreshadowing). Again, we didn't see much at the bridge, but weren't willing to give up on the night. We decided that we wanted to head back to my buddy's aunt's house and see if we could get inside. We got back in our car and drove across the bridge to turn around. But as we were driving across the bridge another car comes pulling up to the bridge. I turned around, but couldn't cross the bridge because the other car was blocking us - it was the same car from before.

My buddy and I were SUPER freaked out by this. I sat there for about 10 seconds and then flashed my lights at them. Immediately, the back doors on both sides of the other car opened and we saw two people get out - the disappeared into the dark. Even more so, my buddy nd I are losing it. I flashed my lights again and now the car drove across the bridge and alongside us. They rolled down their window and we saw that it was the guy and gal from the bar that we asked for directions. This didn't calm us down at all, but I rolled down my window too. They said that they were just concerned about us and wanted to make sure that we made it out here okay. We thanked them and told them that we were ready to call it a night (even though we still intended on heading to my buddy's aunt's). They told us that if we were interested in haunted stuff, that they had a place in Plattsmouth that was super haunted and we could follow them back to it (note - they did have Cass county plates...I vividly remember that car....). We told them thanks, but no thanks and that we were ready to head back home. As we were driving back into town, for the first half of the way back, they followed us eerily closely. But, halfway back, they puled in around in front of and flew ahead.

Once we got back in town, we tried to find our way back to my buddy's aunt's, but got lost in the neighborhoods. I vividly remember pulling up to a 4-way intersection and seeing that car stopped at the intersection across from us. Taken aback, we pulled forward and they waved as we passed. I shit you not, we saw them at different intersections probably 6 or 7 times. We were convinced that they were following us, but had no idea how they always knew where we were. At this point, we had had enough and just wanted to go home. Unfortunately, we could not find our way back to the highway.

We got back to Main St and flagged down a car heading our way, hoping to ask for directions. At this point, it was a little after 2:00 in the morning. Wouldn't you know it, but it was our old friends from the bridge again. I can't tell you why, despite the fear that they had caused us thus far, we decided to ask them for directions to the highway. They, of course, offered to help and told us just to follow them. Again, I can't tell you why, but we decided to listen and follow them. After following them for a coupe of minutes, I saw a sign for us to turn left to get to the highway - but they went straight. I panicked and didn't know what to do, so I skipped the turn and continued to follow them. Almost immediately after that they turned to go on a dirt road, up a hill. Finally my common sense kicked in. I literally yelled, "Fuck this!!!" and pulled a u-turn across someone front yard.

Made our way back to the highway and hauled ass back home. Literally, for the next two weeks I was on constant look out for that car, convinced that they were going to find me. I have no idea what their actual intent that night was, but it certainly wasn't good.

This next one isn't nearly as long, but it was pretty crazy.

Same buddy and me continued to have a few "ghost hunting" excursions for the next few months, but nothing every really happened. One night we decided to check out the Villisca Axe Murder House in Villisca, IA. If you don't know the story, you can check it out here. But it is considered one of the most haunted places in the midwest. My buddy and I decided to drive out there in the middle of the night and check it out.

We got there a little after midnight. Honestly, it is basically in a neighborhood and just looked like an old house that someone could still live in. We started walking around the outside of the house taking pics, looking for orbs. I'll admit, it gave off some serious weird and creepy vibes. Nothing like I've ever felt before. When we got around to the backside of the house there was a big barn. Immediately the barn doors flew open and something/someone started heading straight for us. Scared the absolute shit out of me and my buddy.

Ended up being that a legit paranormal activity team was there studying the house that night and had their headquarters set up in the barn. They were super nice and invited us into the barn and showed us all their equipment. They told us that this wasn't their first time studying the house and last time one of their guys was physically attached by something and marks all over his body. They showed us their website and documentary on the house (I looked for it on YouTube, but this was over 10 years ago...). After that, they offered to give us a tour inside the house...at 1:00 in the morning. Nothing happened to us in the house, but it was BY FAR the creepiest feeling I've ever had. I couldn't stop thinking "I shouldn't be here...I shouldn't be here" the entire time I was in the house. While I didn't see anything myself, 100% that place is haunted. I've been to a lot of "haunted" places, and this place was just different.

How did you get lost in Weeping Water?

I had a buddy who lived in a house where shit would go flying off the shelf. His wife got hit in the head by a ketchup bottle the one time. His dog would just sit and bark at the closet and he said blood ran down the wall in the one room. I’ve also heard a ufo stories.

Let's hear those UFO stories

My family knew these people around the Fairfield area from the late 70s maybe early 80s who saw a ufo up close. They took two of the girls into separate rooms and they came up with the same exact picture and they were scared shitless. My uncle said it was in the Hastings Tribune or Clay County News at the time. He knew them well and said they were very trustworthy people.

I know another guy who swears he seen something like tic tac making crazy moves all over the sky years ago. Im not as sure on him because he is one of those guys who thinks he is always right. I’m more fascinated about ufos than ghosts myself.

I have a quick UFO story. I was sitting on the driveway of my buddy's house one summer night in middle school and I saw what I thought was a shooting star. It was hauling ass but didn't have a streak behind it or anything. Then it stops and continues getting brighter and brighter, almost like it was coming straight at us. It was probably 5 times bigger than we first spotted it. I look over at my friend and we were both teary-eyed, could not believe what we were seeing. Then, it changes direction again, shoots off, and disappears. Craziest things I've ever seen.

What was your weed laced with?

My ex-wife (girlfriend at the time) lived in a shitty old apartment near downtown La Vista in the late 90's.
Apparently, the building was a sanitorium for Scarlet Fever at the turn of the century.

We experienced some scary things there that led to her moving out pretty quickly.

1. Her kitten would hiss randomly at nothing almost daily.

2. The bathroom door was old and had deep scratches in it from a dog.
It closed tightly and required force to open and close it.
I was sitting on the can one time just looking at the scratches on the door when it suddenly opened.
It opened hard like it had been kicked. I was the only person in the apartment at the time.

3. I was brushing me teeth in the same bathroom, and the toothpaste cap just flew across the room and landed in the bathtub.
It had been just sitting there on this little shelf under the mirror.

4. We heard knocking on the walls in the middle of the night after banging. It was around 3am.
She was the only person living in the building at the time - the other three apartments were empty.
