For the most part, I agree.

I don’t know how to evaluate our situation with Raiola getting hurt against USC. I think there’s a 50+% chance we beat them with a healthy Raiola and then we get to 8 wins. I’m sure many on here will debate that and think Lateef is better and we were always going to lose to USC either way. To many of those posters, it’s black and white. It’s gray for me.

Because of this and knowing the reality of the situation (huge buyout and our two best seasons since 2016), I’m going to choose to be open minded going into next year and hope for the best, while knowing and understanding 7 wins isn’t good enough. Rhule will need to improve.
Yeah I’m okay with giving Rhule next year because of everything you said above, it just seems like with next years schedule the writing is already on the wall.

I think a big subset of this fan base refuses to truly acknowledge how bad the prior decade was for Nebraska. We were literally a bottom 5 P4 team before Rhule took the job. Two straight winning seasons is actually progress.

I acknowledge that we were ass but I don’t think that in 2025 you can use that as much of an excuse. You can flip a roster in 1-2 years.

Who exactly are the current 1-2 year flips? Indiana was like a 1 out of 1000 scenario, Texas Tech required massive NIL, A&M had massive NIL behind them.

Way more an exception than the rule.

every good coach in history is off and running by Year 2.

there is nothing to argue here. it's just how it goes.

Let the record show that I was then, and am now, a BOleaver.
A few years back I was presented with the opportunity to purchase a signed Bo Pelini portrait at an antique store. I often think about how I passed up that chance, and everything that could have been.

Let me guess, you wanted to bring Frost back after the “best 3-9 team of all time”?
LOL…brother, I said ok fair enough. Take a lap and breath.

No, I was not that guy. I’m on record for saying I didn’t like the hire from day one as he was too big to fail.

There are plenty of people who still want Fred fired because of how his tenure started at NU. He didn’t win right away, so in their minds nothing he’s doing now matters — he failed, end of story. Just wait until they drop their first game, and the vultures will be circling again.

Which brings me to Rhule… what exactly do the “this isn’t going to work” guys want done? I’m not seeing many actual solutions, just the assumption that his tenure is doomed no matter what. So what’s the plan — fire him now? Fire him next year even if he wins 6–7 games and currently has the #5 recruiting class in 2027? Blow it all up and start over again? Or maybe, just maybe, show a little patience and see how the thing progresses.

I’m not thrilled with how this year ended, but I’m also not melting down over it once DR went down. Next year could fall apart and Rhule could get fired — fair enough, he’d earn that if things truly cratered. But maybe showing a little patience for a guy who just delivered back-to-back bowl seasons for the first time in a decade isn’t the worst idea.

Let’s see how the portal shakes out and how that 2027 class continues to develop before we toss everything in the trash and start from scratch yet again.
nacho libre yep GIF

Rhule’s trajectory is a coach who hovers around .500. Probably 6-7 wins most seasons with an occasional 8-9 win season. If that’s what you signed up for than I guess we should just keep Rhule.

Fuckin Northerstern hired there interim and through 3 years he has the same record in the Big 10 as Rhule.
There's nothing to suggest that's true. He's won more every year every stop.

That may be the case, it may not. The schedule always looks different at the end of the year than it does the beginning.

Indiana brought in over 35+ portal players each of the last two years, I'd love to do that once and see what happens...then next year could look a lot different.

There's a few games next year that feel impossible and there's a few that are guaranteed locks...but there's definitely 6-7 wins if we're just the same as we are now.

Indiana actually practices tho. We just podcast and chill.

Eh 5 wins in year 1, 6 wins in year 2, I think 8-9 in year 3 and you really could’ve sold that as progress. Instead we get a weak team that can’t tackle, can’t rush the passer, can’t stop the run, can’t pass block, can’t really do much above average in year 3.

Those who don’t get mesmerized by Rhule behind a mic are ready for the next guy.
From the eye test -I’d say year 3 has been Rhule’s worst team

I guess it depends on the people with money really think. I assume they had to sign off on that stupid extension. If we have 4-5 blowouts I could see him getting fired, but if we are a 4-5 win team and and play most teams tough I don’t see it. I think it comes down to 2027 with milestones he has to meet or he is gone.

I agree with the bolded, but they are influenced by the loudest part of our fan base.

The only caveat to that in my lifetime was Frost getting too many years.
