What are you on about now?
Call fired their 7-5 coach, and now people are extrapolating that to they have higher strandards then us, ignoring the fact that Cal kept Wilcox for 9 season with a 26-47 conference record in the ACC/P12 and were on a streak of 5 straight losing seasons

You have to wonder what Cal is thinking here. Wilcox obviously wasn’t Nick Saban, but its….Cal. They’ve had three coaches above .500 in my lifetime, and only marginally so. They’re entrance requirements make them a Stanford at best, and they don’t have much in the way of NIL money. Who do they coerce into signing to coach there who’s good enough to deliver better results than their historical bests the last thirty years?

If anything the firing proves they’re even more delusional than Nebraska.

I believe Ron Rivera is their GM.

pretty wide coaching network.

There is no might about it, baseball is the absolute worst from a funding & NIL standpoint.
Unfortunate however makes sense as warm weather schools have a huge year round outside playing advantage that colder area schools can never match.

He is and I’m not sure what difference that would make.

They’re still going to be likely looking at an unproven up and comer or a retread to take on a ‘Low NIL’ Cal job with expectations that don’t align with resources.

Could Rivera have a former position coach or coordinator he worked with in mind? Sure. Not likely to be an upgrade if the guy isn’t on any other FBS school’s radar.

He was 6-5 when fired also. And yes, everything else you said is correct.

Funny thing is that he went 5-7 in year one, 7-6 in year two, and 8-5 in year three. So he may have the exact same record through three years (which was also the best 3 year stretch he had at Cal) and somehow them keeping him for another 6 seasons proves that their expectations are... higher?

I can't decide whether @TampaBaySkers is serious or just trolling the board.

It's not THAT big of a deal. All teams spend the fall practicing and scrimmaging, the winter doing conditioning and drill work, and then ramp up in the spring to live work. Then they all play summer ball wherever they're placed.

It might make a difference for the first week of the season but it's overblown. If we competitively funded baseball NIL we could be competitive at the regional level and if we upgraded facilities to go along with that then we could be competing for CWS bids again.
