We seem to be in a never ending cycle of firing coaches. That is never a recipe for success.

I’m not saying Rhule is the answer but I’m not totally out yet. Next year will most likely get me there. And then we start this shit all over again. We hire the next coming of Christ, drool all over him for a year, maybe two and then decide he sucks too. At some point you hope we get it right, just don’t see it in my lifetime.
Actually that is the recipe for success. Keeping loser coaches for longer than needed is the recipe for failure. Frost should have been gone after year 3 as Rhule should be.

You keep hiring until you find the right one - see Detroit lions

I’m not out on Rhule, but he’s really backed himself into a corner for ’26. We can rationalize all we want about the ‘Why’s’ of this past season, but the reality is half of them are on him/the staff.

In ’26, he wins 6 or less, he’s gone.

What about another 7 win regular season? I can’t believe there isn’t serious heat that starts to come down even with 7.

8 or more and he’s safe.

That leads us to a bowl game that will be nothing more than extended practice for the youth we’re trying to get ready to save our ass in ’26 if the talk of ‘Opt Out’s’ is true.

Off season will be another full of intrigue, ass pain and teeth gnashing.

Can’t wait.

I would be shocked if we won 6 games next season.

I think it could be a really rough season.

The thing that really has struck me over past 3 years is Rhule’s lack of composure on the sidelines. He looks unorganized and out of his league.

He has succeeded at Temple and Baylor, so obviously he knows what he’s doing, but it just appears to me that the game seems to move too quickly for him.

It’s troubling.

His in game management is god awful. You would think who has had multiple HC'ing jobs, college and pro, would be relatively at the very worst be decent at it.

Every time we hire a HC and see the product on the field we also bitch about this one thing. No identity. This team doesn't have an identity AGAIN! It's maddening.

I'm just tired of all the preachy talk from Rhule. He gets punched in the mouth against teams that are better than him. Absolutely no fight. And we play to the competition of teams that are meh.

He is the definition of all bark and no bite.

I can see a path to six without significant improvement in the portal.

Problem is our 7 this year could have been four with just a few bad bounces in each game that seem to have become our identity. I don’t know if that changes in ’26 or not, but I kind of doubt it.

There were some extreme close ones that shouldn’t have been in MD and MSU as examples. But then the USC game we where about to take commanding control if we scored a TD on the drive DR got hurt.

If there has been one constant in Rhule’s tenure (outside of Akron and Houston Central High School) is that we find a way to keep most games close. That includes the games we should really be distancing ourselves from the opposition on.

6 wins seems fairly probable. 7-8 wins is possible but it’s going to take a major overhaul via the portal and upgrade in coaching at a few key positions.

I’m willing to give Rhule this off season to see if he can make the changes needed to get this back on track. Apparently we have the NIL support now, so time to see if he can make it happen.

We were 13th in the transfer team rankings last year, need to be top 5 this year.

The good thing is our opposition doesn’t stay static either.

Ohio State will still be head and shoulders better than anyone on the schedule, but Indiana loses a ton, Oregon loses a few folks and I suspect Illinois will take a step back and I don’t know what the hell is going on with Washington. They’ll all still be favored to beat us.

I’m not sure where we are in the transfer rankings will matter. Again, it’s not static, so we could be #5 and it not matter if fewer overall transfer and we don’t get the guys we really need.

I heard last night on one of the talk shows, Indiana brought in over 70 transfers in the portal in the past 2 years (over 35 each year). That's crazy. Unless you have a long-term commitment from a booster, I still don't know if that's super sustainable but we will see.

I would like us for one year to be mega portal driven, like go get 30 to 40 guys. Not joking. Just for one year to see if we can flip this roster in a positive way. Then you can let your young guys grow a little bit.

Go look at the rankings from last year, if you’re top 5 you’re bringing in some major talent. We would likely be close to breaking 50% in the blue chip ratio at that point.
