#2ndChoice to Wisconsin Confirmed

I hope we do we have done well historically when we target Texas.

This x1000, just comes off as butthurt ducky. I think it’s possible both made good hires. Our resources, NIL and facilities will hopefully give us an advantage.
We’ve had the best facilities in the West for 10 years. Hopefully Rhule is the developer he claims to be and hopefully didn’t lose any of that mojo in the NFL

Neither one is obviously better than the other.
This is correct. One may prove to be better in 5 yrs but we don't know now. They're both A to A- hires IMHO.

If I were Turd and I had to pick, I'd probably take Rhule based on 3 factors:

1. Access to TX recruits/established name in TX
2. Rep as OL/DL guy, teams play w toughness
3. Experience cleaning up dumpster fires (#2ndChoice hasn't done this)

I really feel they are a 50-50 coin flip. You'd be great with either. Since you can only pick one I'd have picked Rhule.

Should help us recruit a good roster and hopefully Rhule will maximize the talent he acquires with the same strategy he has used elsewhere.

Baylor going 2-7 after he left kind of makes the point that he was doing his job. They kept the same QB and whatnot and still fell off.

I disagree it's a bigger splash. Rhule is a hell of a splash. The only thing about it that's bigger is that people didn't think he would leave for anything but OSU. Otherwise it's 6 of one and half a dozen of another.
A lot of missing context to the Baylor 2-7 season as well. Aranda didn't get hired until after spring or right as spring ended? That team was doomed looking for a coach in the covid off season.

Imagine trying to do installs without spring practice.
I remember Pelini talking about it on the Bussin with the boys and saying most of their meetings were over zoom and he didn’t have much real contact with the team. For being a new coach, good luck with that.

I’ve got no problem with Aranda, but the idea that him going 2-7 in his first season as a head coach reflects badly on the guy who left after a preceding 11-win season is some pretty tortured logic.

Of course that’s been par for the course in certain quarters here.

I don’t think you’re factoring in how hard it was for a new coach to take over during the Covid year. The year 3 results gives me more pause on Aranda than anything.

Allegedly they're only paying #2ndChoice $6m/yr anybody else seeing this? If true Turd didn't fully shit the bed but he did shart a little bit.

You could look at it a couple of ways. One is that #2ndChoice left a ton of money on the table -- or maybe he really wanted to move and there was no one else reasonable to bid for his services.

The other angle is that we had a unique situation with the Carolina contract, which forced the yearly rate high -- but we also didn't have to spend millions of dollars in lump sum buyout. At the same time, we got a long term deal, which will theoretically keep our costs down in the future (although in success, I'm sure we will pay the man). Five years from now, $9 mill will be a steal for a good coach.
