#2ndChoice to Wisconsin Confirmed

I really think Rhule is a better fit here than #2ndChoice would’ve been. The Texas connections are going to be huge going forward. I think there’s still a lot of respect for DONU down in Texas, couple our history with Rhule’s connections and it’s a match made in heaven for Texas recruiting. #2ndChoice and Wisconsin can continue to battle OSU, Michigan, MSU and Penn St for recruits in the north.

Strictly Rhule vs #2ndChoice is a total coin flip. The only bad part about missing out on #2ndChoice is we have to see him in our division for the foreseeable future. I think Rhule, the program rehabber, was Trevs top candidate.

Agree with everything. No more divisions after next year though.

Even considering those things, I still simply prefer the 4-3 over 3-4. 3-4 you also have to have stud LB's who can play multiple. I mean, if you have a bunch of great players, any defensive style will work. I'd prefer to play 4-3 with great players than 3-4 with great players. Just my preference. And I think Rhule prefers the 4-3 also.

But if we go out and pay Leonarhd 2 mil or whatever to be our DC, don't think it means his 3-4 is doomed. Great coaches can also make their system work, and work well and consistently.
Isn’t Georgia running a 3-4 now? I know they have been a 4-2-5 team recently too.

IDK what Georgia runs. But they have tons of talent. Talent makes systems work. Tons of talent makes any system work.

I still prefer the 4-3 even with great talent. Just my preference. I think it is better against the run, and easier to recruit to and not as complicated trying to get players to play multiple. I do realize teams don't stay in base set all the time, but would prefer our base set be 4-3.

What do you mean it really doesn’t mean much anymore? Because you have to be multiple with today’s offenses?
Yes. Down and distance, offense playing against. Like you said I like the 3-4 because it's more versatile on where you're bringing that 4th and 5th guy from. The only real difference is recruiting one guy that can pass rush and drop in coverage. Other than that one guy the rest of the lineup is very similar in what they can do.

The only reason I brought Georgia up is because we might be hiring their co DC.

Shit, in college and pro's anymore, the starting line ups are most teams nickel packages. Seems a lot of offenses base personnel is 11 anymore.
And when you play Cockeye you just play with two joker types or an extra d end and joker. What we missed most this year was that safety/LB hybrid/nickel. Gifford did ok and long term will be decent but to me that's the most important piece in today's defense.

The national guys also gave Frost top grades. Not the best metric to throw out then say you follow college football religiously. In fact, most of us follow it religiously. That's why we are here.
Fucking Tim Brando said,

Hot take alert: Tim Brando calls Scott Frost 'the next generation's Nick Saban’

point is, there is risk in ANY new coach hire…how much risk you want to take is up to you
