AK makes his triumphant return to "pro golf" at the LIV Jeddah Event. By the way, they're trying to convince us that this is what AK looks like now:

Didn’t he take out and collect on an insurance policy because he couldn’t play golf anymore? Wonder how that’s all going to work now that he’s back. I admittedly forgot he existed till these rumors of a comeback popped up recently

That was always the rumor. A large disability policy. I’m assuming either a statute of limitations has run out and/or LIV offered him enough guaranteed $$ that he’s not worried about the disability policy

Two thoughts - 1) Is it maybe a PGA Tour stipulation and not a blanket over all pro golf? 2) If it's "only" $10mil, LIV has that in their couch cushions to pay the fine for breaching the insurance policy.

*I don't know if either of the above is true, just sheer speculation

I know LIV has literal endless cash but I dont see the draw of paying an AK a ton of money to come get last in the fields. Outside the hardcore golf fan no one remembers who he is

I am going to Edinburgh next month and looking to play a few rounds. Can’t go to st Andrew’s but looking at some of the “lesser” courses like kilspindie, gullane, dunbar, etc. anyone been and have any recommendations?

I'm glad he is coming back and definitely interested in how well he does, but it still isn't going to get me to turn on a LIV broadcast. Will just wait for some tweets to come in to see how he did.

Its odd that $10 million is the number being thrown around. Years ago it was supposedly more like $30 million, which would make more sense. AK walked away from more than $10 million in endorsements alone when he quit

@#HBD and I went in 2019. We played Old and Castle at St. Andrews. Castle is fun and not in near the demand as the other courses there (old, new, eden, jubilee) so you should be able to get on. Other than Castle, we played some heavy hitters (old, carnoustie, turnberry, troon).

Played all of those except for Castle. Would suggest Kingsbarns as another great one that’s not too far from Edinburgh and might be more accessible. Same with North Berwick. That place is a treat. Muirfield is also pretty close, but that’s a tougher tee time. Might be the greatest course I’ve ever played…

Thanks for the recs, I looked at North Berwick but it’s literally booked for all of 2024, and Muirfield only allows visitors Tuesday and Thursday and we’re busy both days unfortunately. Think we are going to have to stick to a few of the lesser known courses but should be amazing all the same.

The PGA loyalist always make me laugh. If you are a golf fan and aren’t excited to see AK play you something is wrong. He was bigger than Rory and just vanished after he was supposed to be the next big thing in golf.

I’ve always heard $20 mill insurance policy after his last injury. Supposedly he has been a very successful businessman since but I would assume the money that would have to be paid back is covered by LIV. His contract is pretty incentive based for the first couple events.

For me it has nothing to do with being a “PGA loyalist”. The LIV broadcast just absolutely sucks. I’ve turned it on numerous times and never last more than 5-10 minutes. I also do not like the shotgun start for professional golf (at least on the final day).

The quality of golfers on LIV isn’t the problem, obviously, but they have a ways to go before it is really watchable. So, I will just wait for the tweets, instagram posts, or YouTube videos to come out.

If LIV was smart for this (at least) single tournament, they would dedicate one camera man/crew to just AK and follow every single one of his shots.

After 1 round, AK is in solo dead last and 14 shots off the lead. Shot an opening round 76 (par 70) with 1 birdie and 7 bogeys. Will be interesting to see if he can shake off some of the rust quickly, or if this will be a short lived comeback.

It will be the latter. I believe he signed on for the full season though. 76 in your first competitive round in a decade still is nothing to scoff at

Some nice shanks. He’ll get better but he’s 38 and it’s been 14 years since he was elite. Low expectation- will be middle of the pack on the MBS tour
