What is your confidence level in Rhule? (can he get NU to the CFP?)

  • 100% - he's a lock to get us to CFP min 1 time

  • 75% - he's pretty likely to get us to CFP at least once

  • 50% - it's a 50-50 shot

  • 25% - it's unlikely but could happen with some luck

  • 0% - I've lost faith in Rhule / he's not capable of getting NU to the CFP

I voted 50/50 because Rhule has shown he's willing to make changes. I feel like a lot of coaches don't do that and they go down with the ship.

I also don't feel like the sky is falling and still feel okay about the rest of the season. To me, we were asleep against Minnesota in a similar way we were against Indiana last year. I expect them to bounce back this weekend.

And if they don't, I'll begin doubting Rhule can get it done here. I'm still on board as of right now.

50/50

Same perspective as the end of last year: Talk is cheap. Saying all the right things and putting the team we just saw Friday out on the field doesn’t match up. Could he be the guy? Maybe. Will he be? I’ll trust my eyes and not my ears.

They spent a bunch of money on OL, WRs, and new offensive staff and mustered a whopping 6 points which was the second lowest output allowed by Minnesota only behind Northwestern State.

Not exactly confidence inspiring that Rhule will ever be more than a .500 coach at Nebraska
The offensive staff thing is interesting. Holgorsen seems to get a pass from everyone, and it’s not clear why.

Sometimes these guys have a shelf life, even if they were once considered “geniuses”.

Late stage Dana Holgorsen is looking a lot like late stage Gus Malzahn.

I've wondered if the game has passed him by. I thought it was a very poor offensive gameplan.

Why didn't we commit to the run more? Why didn't we see more screen passes until the end of the game, when it worked? Minnesota has been tackling like shit leading up to this game. I thought we'd try to expose that.

It definitely doesn't give me the warm fuzzies when the announcer is talking about how Dana was working on fitting stuff into the bones of Scat's system. Obviously the system has evolved more toward Dana's shit, but it still feels like it lacks an identity

I was wondering why the entire CFB world was worshipping us for having the brilliance to snag Dana Holgorsen.

1 yr in and I understand why. You're spot on.

I don't have any doubt that he can get us to the playoffs. He's a builder and administrator and I think everything about our program has improved since he got here. The talent we have, at least on paper, has improved significantly. We have good coordinators and a mostly good coaching staff. Lots of talent and good coordinators can get you far.

Whether he can win a playoff game is another story.

He’s (supposed) to be the guy that gets us back to winning 8-9 games regularly, the CFP shouldn’t even be a discussion point. He’s going to have to get better at identifying portal talent for that to be the case; odds are he won’t.

Matt Rhules biggest failure is what most coaches failures are.
He was loyal to friends and hired them to jobs they didn’t deserve. The worst part is he had a large pool of funds for assistants and just decided to overpay the u deserving friends. Fuck isn’t satt still making a mill to coach TEs now?

He dog walked Turd with the assistant budget and hiring
Well, figure out a way to usher Foley COMPLETELY out of the program, so you can find a spot for Uncle Donny in a role other tha O-line coach.

And here's why - realistically I don't think Rhule will dismiss Uncle Donny, so the next best thing is to find a spot for Donavan and hire another O-Line coach. At the very least they better hire a freaking permanent O-line consultant...similar to what Phil does for the defense.

But I am with others, if you fire Donny, then Dayton and Dylan leave, you I'm OK with with that. Although there's probably a better way to go about it so we don't have to hear from Dominic's teammates and dumb fans that we did the Raiola's dirty.

I went with 0. You can tell by year three with coaches today. If Rhule was the coach we hoped he was he wouldn’t have got beat down by Minnesota who looks worse than they usually do. Both lines aren’t physical. I thought when we hired Rhule we would atleast have tough teams up front, but we don’t.

I don't have playoffs on my NU expectation radar until they can demonstrate program stability. Program stability for me: winning the games you should, occasionally punching above your weight for a W, having competent OL/DL, minimizing mistakes, and being a physical football team. Until we reach that level of stability I'm not considering playoffs within reach but more of a program that swings between 5-7 and 8-4, with 8-4 being a stretch goal for this season.

BTW I was listening to Doc Talk with Zatechka...he is now respectfully saying you have to look at Donny's job. He said basically "we've exhausted all other avenues..at some point you have to start looking at the guy running the show (Donovan)."

I understand Rob was never teammates with Dom but you get it. But I think at this point everyone knows that Donny is not getting it done.

I am not worried about ANYONE saying "you did the Raiolas dirty." I think every ex player understands Donny got more of a runway than anyone else would have.

Well then, maybe it's a simple "you're relieved of your duties Donny". But you're right, if it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it's a Donovan Raiola duck.
