Finally got to rewatch the game

I think they tried it against second and third string and it looked good. Week 1 is to see what you look like against another opponent. Remember, we moved a WR to RB after spring ball and he's our #2. You really don't know what you have until the bullets are flying.
I think the bullets were real bullets too. I was listening to Andy/Ari on On3 and they talked about how good the Cincinnati OL is and is going to be this year.

Also listened to Matt Vrzal's post-game wrap up and he made a comment that he thinks Cincinnati is going to finish 3rd or 4th in the Big 12. And Vrz has not been an NU sunshine pumper really.

I'm not exclusive Jeudy or anyone else, just saying that that was a legitimate P4 we faced. So the bullets were definitely different than "brother-in-lawing it" in fall camp.

To your last paragraph, do you think the crowd was worse at Arrowhead than it would have been in Memorial?

I don't disagree either way, an 8PM home game at Memorial has the fans juiced. I just think it was pretty loud there and pro-Nebraska.
It was as loud or louder than most any game I've been to in Lincoln. I'm convinced we lose that game in Cincinnati. The crowd was a difference maker.

I think Cincy will be good as well. They had a decent OL coupled with a mobile QB, and they had an anchor in the middle on their DL we couldn't move at all. Game 1 to Game 2 jump will help us as well.

I just think all of the things we are talking about such as more vertical passing game (no matter the defense), OL getting a better push, DL tightening up, finding an RB2 the other coaches are emphasizing as well since they need to get better. Shoot, Rhule even made mention about the RB situation.

Ya hopefully we wouldn't lose, but that crowd was way into it for us in Arrowhead. The Cincy graphics were weird when you heard how loud the crowd was for the Huskers that's why I don't think it being in Lincoln changes a whole lot. Not sure our players were looking at the jumbotron telling Bearcats fans to get loud as it was quiet for us to snap the ball.

The crowd was rowdy and even heavily booed their band. Not Nebraska-nice. I did not partake in the band booing and still lost my voice....lol.

Yeah an old dude scolded me for booing a little bit.

I told him
1. This is arrowhead.
2. Something needs to change, we’ve been getting our ass kicked for 20 years.

An underrated worry is the blocking we are going to get from TE2 when in heavy sets or 12 personnel. I think losing Markway is a far more crushing loss than we anticipated. Mozee and Nelson both would have had big runs if haarberg and Carter would have got
their blocks.

There was this 75 year old lady behind me from North Platte, she told her husband during the game when the showed Sorsbey “he’s a cute kid, I hope he breaks his leg” i nearly choked on my beer laughing

The RB room is the one that I just don't get, they very much needed to bring someone in, and when the NDSU guy ended up going elsewhere we just threw up the white flag and moved Mozee there.

DL I feel like we tried to get people here but it's really tough to replace Nash and Ty, I get that. I wish we could have found a guy similar to them in the portal, but they probably are extremely expensive.
RB pissed me off as soon as Dowdell left and we didn't have anybody. I thought Brown would have been a good addition and he looked good for Miami this weekend.

DL is probably stupid expensive to get a good dude there. I also think they thought RVP was going to be more dominate. I could see us looking better later in the year as they are doing things very different than under White..... A lot more man and a lot more movement upfront.

They are trying to have Jeudy do what Robinson/Hutmacher did and he can't do it. RVP is really the only one that could be close.
Did they stunt Ty and Nash that much? It seemed like they were always moving Jeudy and he looked like a dancing bear at times....just no speed and wasn't very violent.

I feel better about the defense after hearing Damon Benning break it down on his show yesterday. Seems like it’s a lot of minor, correctable stuff that we now have game film on to help us correct.

This is coping.

They're the 7th or 8th best team on the schedule. They're a middle of the pack big 12 team. That doesn't mean we'll lose 7 games but that team is not good. Not bad but certainly not good.
Cincy is probably better than
  • Maryland
  • Sparty
  • Minnesota
  • Akron
  • HCU
  • UCLA
  • Northwestern
I am using FPI and what football I watched this weekend. They are probably a middle of the road team for us that is on our schedule.

I'd agree there. But also part of me wonders if something was drilled in his head all camp and spring of following the blocks. There's some "vision" that needs to be taken into account with elite RBs. While I don't think EJ is elite, I think he could get more yards with "feel".
I am curious how much of that was him being gassed..... Seemed like he wasn't the same player in the 2nd half and I want to say he was pushing high teens as far as touches in the 1st half.

We’ve always overestimated and overstated our ability to compete on NIL.

So much... we are top 40-ish
Brown is the 3rd string RB for Miami and he is getting more $ than EJ....

Top 40 might be a little hyperbole, but I do think we aren't writing enough big checks to get some difference makers. Top 40 is basically bottom of P4..... I don't think we are there.

I did not think NW was good when we lost to them in Ireland. It was sickening. Cincy on the other hand, has a good team, it was a good team to open with. They exposed us in a few areas, we needed that. If they stay healthy, they will be a bowl team and will make noise in the Big 12. I make no claims of being a genius, but I am not stupid either, I trust what I saw.

Very concerned about the interior of our DL. I suspect Rhule is going to get involved there, he needs to. Not being at practice ever, I don’t know what is being taught or how our DL is being coached. I cannot comment on that with certainty, but work needs to done, that is obvious..

I am willing to give the defensive coaches time to fix issues. We will all be able to see if progress is being made.
