Finally got to rewatch the game

Brown is the 3rd string RB for Miami and he is getting more $ than EJ....

Top 40 might be a little hyperbole, but I do think we aren't writing enough big checks to get some difference makers. Top 40 is basically bottom of P4..... I don't think we are there.
I have this because I researched it in a text thread...

20 teams I know have more NIL than us: Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, USC, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, A&M, Alabama, Texas, Florida State, Miami, and Clemson.

5 more teams I'm pretty sure have more NIL than us from seeing what they did in the transfer portal and boosters after that to knock us out of the top 25: Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, SMU, and BYU.

So now do teams like these 12 have more that could knock us out of the top 40? Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, UCLA, Washington, Northwestern, Arizona State, Kansas, Houston, Utah, or Baylor.

I know the first 25 have more than us, those last 12 some of them have really heavy boosters that care like Papa John's, Michael Jordan, etc. I think it's a healthy debate, I just feel pretty good saying we are between 30-40 somewhere.

Cincy is probably better than
  • Maryland
  • Sparty
  • Minnesota
  • Akron
  • HCU
  • UCLA
  • Northwestern
I am using FPI and what football I watched this weekend. They are probably a middle of the road team for us that is on our schedule.
I'd put them behind Sparty and probably Minnesota but it’s not by a big margin. I certainly wouldn't have Cincinnati ahead of Penn St, Mich, USC, or Cockeye.

UCLA is a wild card. Probably not as bad as they looked this weekend.

I am not going to die on the hill here.... They are in the same sandbox of these teams....we can debate it, but this is the caliber of team they are.

Yeah, they looked really bad.

Yeah, Cockeye was the closest one, but right now Cockeye would be about a FG fav on a neutral site.

I am actually shocked about how few B1G teams are on that list.... That is probably where my discrepancy was.

I had us penciled in at 6th (+/-) in the B1G in my mind. Wouldn't shock me if we were lower or higher some years. I imagine it is close-ish to recruiting rankings.

When I thought of 40 I thought that would have us bottom part of the B1G.

When we wrote it out, I thought the same thing. SEC teams seem to have a ton of money sitting there considering bottom of the conference teams being ahead of us. But B1G I think we are actually ok. Then of course there's ACC teams, Notre Dame, and a couple Big12 in there.

I think we just have to pick and choose a little more who we spend on currently. Was talking to 1890 down in KC and they think if we can figure out a way to beat Michigan we will get a ton of money to flow in and might put us in an even better spot. Honestly I think if not for Penn State being as good we may be right there with them?

How is this money getting paid? Aren’t collectives basically banned from paying players directly now? What am I missing?

Collectives will still be around and essentially turn into marketing firms for the players and teams to get them lucrative deals. Further, there is zero regulation on paying kids still in high school such as some of our 2026/2027 recruits.

Closing the loop back to Nebraska, even though I don't believe I would get this kind of intel, there isn't any thoughts currently of having Davison shift into Nebraska's athletic department again and work on payment percentages of the rev share. That is what Pat Steward was paid 2.55 million for over the next few years.

So, Cincinnati isn't a bad team. I think they'll go to a bowl. That being said, MD, MSU, are better than Cincy. Minnesota might be as well.
