Finally got to rewatch the game

You think EJ will only avg 1.5 yards against Mich while New Mexico RBs (a very shitty team) averaged 3.6. Does your wife beat you? I’m getting battered husband vibes from you.
This has turned into an interesting conversation... I'll leave some of it alone.

New Mexico's starting RB and leading rusher had 33 yards against the Wolverines for the entire game, and had one run that was 16 yards skewing that further. Are you telling me that's good?

Let me flip the script a bit, let's say EJ doubles what New Mexico's leading rusher does and goes off for 66 yards against Michigan, you think we win or that's good?

I was thinking the same on Rocco, great to have him, but if money was tight then it could have been spent elsewhere.

If money is tight that's fine but I'm tired of hearing from the Deans of the world how much money NU has one minute and then not having enough to pay for an RB or DT the next.
We have to pick and choose who we spend it on. Texas and others don't.

I was taking a look at ESPN FPI and Massey to rank all the Big Ten Non con opponents. Cincinnati is 4th out of 18 opponents. I think they are a 6-6 team at best.

Also, this is going to sound BIZARRE, and you have every right to say, "Corn, you're a dipshit." But I was in the stadium on Thursday. If you take that crowd out of Arrowhead and move it to a Nebraska home game with the Nebraska band, in stadium sound, and Environment, I think the Huskers run away with it in the 2nd half.

The RB room is the one that I just don't get, they very much needed to bring someone in, and when the NDSU guy ended up going elsewhere we just threw up the white flag and moved Mozee there.

DL I feel like we tried to get people here but it's really tough to replace Nash and Ty, I get that. I wish we could have found a guy similar to them in the portal, but they probably are extremely expensive.
What we kept hearing after losing Boerk, Dante was that they were getting paid more than they thought they were worth however they didn’t replace them. We seem to be kinda cheap when I think they should be greedy as DR is only going to be here through next season. Take advantage of it. Why not do a couple of Texas Tech deals for a DL, RB, etc? Maybe it will pay off over the long haul however they seem to be handicapping themselves.

Texas Tech has a lot more money than I thought. To your point, the "they were getting paid above their market value" really bothered me. If they are getting offered something, that's their market value. I get we don't have the money to compete with Ohio State, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Texas, etc. But I feel this is the first year we didn't go after what I thought were glaring needs for us at RB and DL. Would also say TE. But you can't predict a Markway injury either so I'm trying not to be too hard there.

To your last paragraph, do you think the crowd was worse at Arrowhead than it would have been in Memorial?

I don't disagree either way, an 8PM home game at Memorial has the fans juiced. I just think it was pretty loud there and pro-Nebraska.

So you don’t want to talk ypc anymore? I think EJ will do better than New Mexico’s 3.6 ypc from their top two backs.

I think you’ll be less bullish about Mich after OU embarrasses them next week

We’ve always overestimated and overstated our ability to compete on NIL.
We should lower our expectations then. The very top teams spend what $30mm on their roster which was before the revenue sharing? We are probably half that or less?

I kept hearing how this ruling would help NU and how we aren’t in debt playing field would be leveled. Oh well.

Damon Benning seemed pretty meh on EJ’s performance. Sounds like he left a lot of yards out there.
I've never been a huge fan of EJ. BUT...he never fumbles. He picks up 4 when you need 4. My thought was that the passing game was going to be so elite that having a B level RB would work. Because EJ does all the things Holgo wants.

But in that 1 game, it seemed like DH was content to let the passing game take what it was given. And then our RB wasn't good enough to take what he was given. So the passing game was a B and the running game was a C+. SOMETHING is going to have to be elite. Holgorsen's gonna have to find a way to get the passing game to 300 yds even vs the 3 deep shell. If we don't we're looking at 11 more 20-17 games and the entire state getting ulcers every week.

DH should be able to figure this out. Our passing game IS elite. DH has not not be content with letting the other team take our passing game completely out of the equation. That just feels so passive to me. Surely he can figure out a way to get that done. If not then the entire season comes down to how good the RBs make their reads.

That just seems like an odd thing to do, to pay Dylan $3m to be elite but then go.....we're letting other defenses take him out of the game. And be cool with that. Force the fuckin issue! Fuck

I never brought up ypc, you did. I have no idea what your point is right now, you are trying to tell me that we should feel ok going against Michigan on the ground because New Mexico ran for 50 yards total against Michigan by altering it to "New Mexico had ___ for ypc and EJ is better." Michigan after week 1 is a top 20 rush defense.

But at the end of the day, week 1 doesn't mean a ton to me, just shows you where you need to improve. I mean, I think everyone will say that our rushing offense is unreal after the next two weeks regardless of what Michigan does against Oklahoma. What I'm saying is Michigan is much better than a Cincy rush defense, and certainly better than an Akron and Houston Christian rush defense.

We have an A+ QB with B and C talent at most positions except some wide outs. Crazy they haven’t built a better OL and RB room heading into year three but maybe we just don’t have the fazols. Rhule has been saying lines and running the ball is a focus so we will see how it goes in the B1G.

Is that you Joe Biden??

But if they are 3 safeties high and we have Johnson as our RB with not elite speed, how can we do that? Cincy was basically keeping everything in front of them.

What worries me is if Michigan does something similar and EJ is getting 1-2 yards per carry instead of 3-4. Because the Wolverines can handle our WRs with their DBs.

So much... we are top 40-ish
Well we’re boned then. We could jump up and have a big year every once in a while however no chance to build to consistently compete vs our “peers” with that type of money. They are going to have to pull the grandfathered low ticket donations and throw that into NIL or back door pay but that probably wouldn’t be enough.

This is so interesting bc we’ve been sold publically how we’re debt free and in such great shape to be a top player in NIL and rev share.

Alright fine, we can go back to ypc then. Do you think we actually win if Johnson doubles New Mexico's ypc and goes for 6 each time and we have 100 rushing yards total to end the game? We had 110 rushing yards against Cincy.

New Mexico had 50 rushing yards man and you're inferring Michigan isn't a great rush defense, or at minimum one we shouldn't be worried about.

Keep in mind, most elite QBs don't have A+ everywhere. That happened like once and it was 2019 LSU.

Typically even All American QBs have B and C players. Even Heisman winners have that. But they are allowed to cut it loose and they put up numbers anyway. Just seems like we're content with Dylan being the check down king when he could be so much more.

I think the WR/receiver corps of Key, Hunter, Barney, Mills, Lindenmeyer and Carter Nelson are an A level of receivers. Plus young guys like Keelan Smith etc. That is more than enough.

I think we should cut Dylan loose a time or two.

I will say we are in a very good spot since we weren't in the red. We could "absorb" the 20 million new expense as opposed to other places like Cockeye State.

I want to see how things even out after this year though, there was a mad rush to pay guys before they got on campus before the new legislation came in place. We may actually be ok after that. But we aren't paying more than Ohio State and others before you add in Texas Tech's of the world.
