The ceiling for this program is immediately beneath the first tier of the big ten, which includes Michigan, Ohio State, and Oregon. These are the only three programs in the conference that are built to win a playoff game in the four team format.

Cockeye, Washington, USC, UCLA, and Penn State are in the tier below. If the schedule breaks right and you have a great QB you can sneak into the playoff, but you won’t win. If we hadn’t mismanaged literally everything since 2013 I think we’re here.
The latter part of your post kind of counters your original statement? If we are beneath Michigan, tOSU, and Oregon; then we’re in the tier with Cockeye, Washington, USC, UCLA, and Penn State correct?

Didn’t Rhule go with all young guys at his prior stops? If I remember correctly he said Nebraska was a lot different with their experience and talent level.
There were barely any seniors/non-returnees on the 2-deep at the end of the year.

USC and PSU are for sure a tier above us.

They are, I made that clear. Reading is hard but I said I feel we’d be there if we maintained the direction we had in 2013

If a third tier exists, I think we’re in it with Minnesota, Michigan State, Maryland. Citrus Bowl and a divisional title is a good year. Maryland can’t compete in the east but the criteria changes in a week, literally

I think evaluating Nebraska is difficult because there isn’t a program with a larger gap between on-field and off-field.

lol good bye then. This attitude is exactly why we’re in the place we’re in right now.
Wanting better than 9-3 year in and year out, as a “blue blood” is the correct instinct. Hiring dogshit head coaches and under investing in the program is the wrong execution.

Dude we haven’t had a winning season in 7 years! We are like 2 tiers below Cockeye at this point.

You’re right. There is no reason we can’t be as good or better than Wisconsin and Cockeye with the right coach.

Is 7-5 and 8-4 is good enough for you? From my standpoint we didn’t hire Rhule to be a meddling middle of the pack team, did we?

We didn’t do the following to be AVERAGE:

- Best facilities in all of CFB (according to reports).

- $450 million stadium renovations (more than likely $600 million or so according to reports), which will be some of the nicest in all the land.

- Top 10-15 paid HC coach.

- Top 10 paid OC.

- Soon to be top 10 paid DC.

Correct, program-wise. Flip the one score losses and it’s probably not a difficult thing to argue. If we had hired Whittingham instead of Mike Riley we’d probably be in Indy next weekend. I wouldn’t say the program would be in much better shape now if that were the case, which is a good thing

One-score losses aren’t an indictment of institutional commitment or potential so I don’t think they lower your ceiling if that makes sense. It became a statistical outlier like two years ago

I’m saying 4. Some game management and possible staffing decisions are stopping me from giving him a 5.

I think his first closing of his first recruiting class and closing on his 2nd year of transfers will tell a lot.

Hey you won’t see me telling you you’re wrong, we’ve been 🐶 💩 for years now. But as a program we have MUCH more financial support for FB, tons more history, better recruiting. Where we’ve lacked is coaching, player development, and player retention IMO.

What do you mean “good enough”? Rhule shouldn’t be fired if that’s the floor/baseline. At some point we have to stop making the same mistake over and over.

The money/salaries mean nothing also. Would be happy with the same result this season if Satt was making half as much as he is now?

Football is a sport where shit can go wrong and lose you a game completely outside of your control. If the most unlucky season you’ve ever seen results in 8-4 then your program is in fantastic shape.

If Satt was making half of what he was we’d be pissed they didn’t nut up and pay for a top-10 OC.

Instead we’re paying top-10 money for a bottom quarter of the B1G offense.

I guess my point is what difference does it make how much these guys get paid? It’s not our money. They’re either good coaches or they aren’t.

I guess it matters in the sense you could be spending the money on a good OC.
