I'm all for bringing him back. How many guys do we have on the current roster that can change the course of a game single handedly? Betts has the potential to be that guy. He is totally worth taking the risk, assuming you do at least a bit of due diligence.

The past has shown that Rhule likes to save programs. Maybe he likes saving players too. If he wants to be a mentor or try to help Betts then I am all for it. But I don't know his history of working with troubled players. Matt is quite religious so I could definitely see him being the type of coach who would try to change players life's if he thought he could. TO loved mentoring troubled players like Lawrence Phillips. Heard numerous stories of Lawrence eating dinner at TO's house while Dr Thom & Nancy tried helping him through some of his struggles.

My bigger question is would Rhule think that Betts is willing to do the hard work and go through the physical practices that Matt puts on his players? I could see Betts landing at a one of the New Mexico schools, Colorado St, Wyoming, Tulsa....... some school on that level that will take a chance on a talented troubled player. Maybe Chinander would try to get him on at Boise St. They don't shy away from problem players.

He's a fantastic talent. Will be a challenge to get him to do the things he needs to do but definitely worth a shot.

Betts May be as smart as his HS coach says he is. Chose not to waste a yr of eligibility under SF but wanted to play his whole college career in Lincoln. Just sat out until frost was ultimately fired and a better guy was brought in.

I think we are seeing rumors lagging real-time events. Him being in the portal suggests he tried to come back (source of the rumors) a couple of weeks ago and they said no.

I don't see the harm in bringing him back for spring ball and if he is out of shape, not dedicated, or sucks, put him in the portal.

I was just going to say don't the Bennings have a connection to Betts. Bennings wife was his teacher or tutor and helped him get qualified the first time around or something like that.
